Quooker type Instant Hot Water Tap. Job done and working

Ive had a similar one of these for nearly 14 years now and also just got one of those smart plugs with energy monitoring in it to see how much it uses which I can now reveal is a massive 42Wh for a single cup or roughly 1.3p are the current price cap, quite suprised how low that actually was.
How much would that cost with a kettle?

Just for you Kev, pulled the old kettle out. 84wh for the minimum amount of water (0.7litre) so about 2.6p, but you can get 2 cups out of it so only saving using the single cup boiler if youre only making the one drink.

Thanks Chris. Newer kettles can do just one cup btw.

I have owned one of these 1 cup kettles for years now but generally when I make a brew its usually for 2-3 people so false economy I reckon. That said its now gathering dust since installing the tap which is being used for a lot more than making tea/coffee. My wife uses it quite a lot now when cooking and washing up as she goes to save the gas combi kicking in.

My take is that these start of as a convenience item but they also can be more efficient. Many people over boil kettle water, or don’t pour it immediately and re-boil the water. Or have a gas hob with flames licking up the sides.
This gives the water you need exactly, and when you need it.

The kitchen is the next part of our house to be gutted and rebuilt, when the funds are saved But I might not wait and just fit one now.

I use them at work to make tea and it tastes good. And I like good tea, loose leaf and I have experienced good tea around the world. I won’t claim to be an expert but I tell the difference between types of black tea.

What's a cup of tea like with one of these things with the water being kept at a near boiling state in a container for a number of hours, any adverse taste?
Bearing in mind it uses a filter to remove Chlorine and other pollutants it doesn't seem to tase any different from the kettle but I would assume its better for you being filtered.
