Possible UK tariff?

i don’t think he is a puppet, he believes in what he is doing, he doesn’t doubt himself and has been saying this for ages. He is surrounded by people who think the same way.
And right now, a significant portion of USA think he is near god like and they won’t give that up easily. They will support this as America First, even if it financially harms them. I am not expecting a pack of cards collapse anytime soon.

As a hobby we would be pretty screwed if we decide to boycott replacement parts etc. Where do you draw the line?

It’s easy for me to say I won’t buy American food, motorbikes, jeans etc as I don’t actually want them at the best of times.

Would I stop buying a board etc to get a game back up and running properly?

I’d be utterly screwed if I decided to stop paying to see American artists perform.

You draw the line at bully tactics and bellends.

I'd just buy a European board if I needed to get a game fixed, or buy a repaired original off people on here.

Don't think concerts will affect tarrifs and trade in either direction 👍

And now the Orange Messiah is going to slap another 50% on Chinese imports, be prepared for NIB pros starting at 11K

I think his idea is that everything is going back in house.
All the businesses will be bankrupt before they get a chance to do this. Even if they did manage, probably still go broke due to price of labour in the USA.

It will all get dropped in a few weeks.

Time will tell I guess..

2) Force organisation to build in America and give jobs and taxes
3) Force Americans to buy locally made products
These both seem like laudable ideas.

The problem, even if there was the necessary skillsets and expertise to manufacture specific product in the US, is the length of time it would take to set up a factory and actually start said producing and selling said goods.
It's certainly not achievable within a year or 2 for the majority of currently imported items. During which time the tariffs and ideas are likely to fail and be reduced or scrapped altogether, so nobody is going to make that commitment without cast iron assurances.
Then add on the relatively high wages in the US compared to other nations and I just can't see how anybody could possibly see this working.

Trump thinks that everyone will simply bow down and agree, I like that China is standing up to him and wish more countries took the same stance.

Bullies only get away with bullying until somebody stands up to them.

Dude, he's a convicted sex offender and fraudster. And too thick to understand the consequences of anything he does

In principal, retaining existing industry and encouraging specific key industries back with targeted tariffs, then using the income that generates to provide infrastructure and public/private partnerships to smooth the transition wouldn't be such a bad idea, inflationary but potentially better in the long term, but blanket tariffs on the whole world is just crazy.

Businesses hate disruption, even if they row back, how can any business rely on the US in the future, knowing the Sharpie can come out at any point.

There was more to my post:
Most of the above have been tried before and not ended* well. They may not end well this time.

Trump is a force that you can’t beat by getting angry with him. You have to play it calmly. Or we will all die of stress over the next 4 years. Or 8, if he forces a change of the constitution. Or delays marshal law.
* edited a spelling mistake.

For the record: My values are so different from Trump that I would never vote for him. I fundamentally disagree with pretty much everything he does.

But I repeat, you can't get angry with Trump, it doesn't make him think he did wrong but see you as a bigger target to attack. China can bang their drum due to their size, they can also tell the countries organisations what to do, accept the losses from the trades or the loss from the tariffs. They also play the same game as Trump. Create friction, get the other side to expect it to be tough, then row back when you get the offer you want.
The EU is also large, they will could try to fight but we know they do not all agree and tow the line underneath. I expect they will drop in line, losing income from tariffs already in place and agreeing to buy more US made stuff.

From everything I have read, my opinion is that thinking Trump is an idiot doesn't help your odds of winning, he can play to his base voters perfectly, he has an immense amount of control and will find the way to win the message. He has loads of reasons to think what he is doing will land enough success to call it a win, and he lives in a bubble where he will call it a win whatever happens.

He can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

He has the best health of any living human ever, truly the best. The fittest president, anywhere, in the world, of all time, so the doctors say.
He is also going to sign an executive order that he can't die, and the people don't want him to die. He will live forever.

out of all the constant lies he tells (and even his supporters must surely realise there are lots) one of my favourites at the moment is that his actions haven’t been inflationary for the USA. Hard to see how that can possibly be true when the price of virtually everything has just leapt up overnight.

Maybe inflation is a price worth paying in his eyes but the average citizen is going to be forking out more.

Actually I should give credit where it’s due.

Not everything has shot up in price.

Shares have become a lot cheaper to buy.

Guess that’s good if it’s your main monthly expense 😉
