Pin2DMD

It was just to show that it is working with STTNG. CV is a good example what can be done when you play with the editor.

How come the ac/dc one I posted is coloured frame by frame but the others aren't?

The short answer is, because someone did the work.

Stern SAM uses 16 colors which can easily be mapped to different palettes using pinball browser. The information is stored in the ROM file.
WPC and most other systems normally have only 4 colors as a starting point. You currently can either map them to a palette or replace them
with a version with more colors.

So it is possible to install the software that is already used on another type of coloured dmd already on these :p

For popular games I'm sure people will do the work and colour them though

No - you cant stick other solutions on there - only pin2dmd and if Luis decided to produce his own i believe.

However if someone creates a colour solution for this screen then it can be shared, yes :)

@Lucky1 - Have you any tutorial on how to setup Visual pin mame to allow grabbing of frames to colourise your own game?

I seem to be having issues finding the correct vpinmame.dll that will allow me to use it - Mine just keeps coming up with "pinDMD not found" :(

Thanks :)

Anyone know an actual REAL source for the LED displays?

I've now wasted money on 2 different ones that don't work (as recommended by people on the VPUniverse thread) but it turns out they are actually GRB displays and don't work properly. At this stage, it would be cheaper to have bought a real DMD :(

How far off is this from a complete, in a box product (like ColorDMD) ?

Well to give you an idea, Pinballsp are taking orders and shipping in a few days.....
They literally come complete as in the panel and Power supply.... remove existing display and replace with new one.
Load @Lucky1's firmware and register with him ($10 donation to charity - obligatory) by putting the keycode on an SD card.

You have to be able to run pinball Editor - you can use this to create a default display colour (specific colour or "vga" which works on Palletes).

You can then colourise etc as required using pinball Editor, or just leave in single colour mode....!

Not too bad for 164 Euro's for the hardware - Cheaper than a replacement dmd or a colordmd screen.... with the ability to colour too (or just use as an orange display)!! :)

Is the idea that once someone colourises a game that they would then make that available for download, perhaps for a donation?

According to the project pages on VPUniverse, they will never be sold commercially and no one will be given the right to sell them commercially. I know some have already asked about buying licences to make and sell them.

So afaik, they will always be a kit, where you then have to register the software via donation to lucky

But what about obtaining the correct panels ? Isn't that the tricky bit ?

Yup. Mine was complete - Panels, Board, PSU, cabling..... 160 euros is £120..... No brainer in my books :)

Especially as currently no option is available for SC as the standard ColorDMD screen is too big....

Thanks @Lucky1 - How about for Non-Stern tables? Will the same dll work??

They work also with this version

GRB panels work also with current firmware. You currently just have to swap cables (R1-G1 and R2-G2)

So I replaced a standard DMD in a SC - had to remote mount the PSU because of the tubes holding the tokens, however works REALLY well.

Havent got around to coloring yet........ :)

P.s They are now producing the "black" version - get one of those - better spec, more refined - same price :)

Quoted €190 for the black edition including shipping, €24 to send it here, thought cheap postage was a benefit of being in the EU :p
