Oktoberfest pinball for sale part ex update

I think just putting people’s comments (be them negative) on the classifieds down to ‘people don’t like change’ is a bit short sighted and simplistic.

I think maybe you underestimate how much people liked the old system.

I, along with a number of others, have offered to help moderate the old For Sale section and that seems to have been sidelined.

I'm currently investigating an option where classifieds Ads are part of a forum... So a similar thing to the old way, however templated and presented in a similar way.
Also investigating fall back of the old forum should that not work out.

Sorry, I missed that! I will keep an eye out and my offer of help is still there (I did PM you a few weeks ago).

I’m all up for change if it provides some value, i can’t see what value this has had for users at all, apart from negative feedback, i must say it has done a good job of killing the conversation around sale items....my 2p worth.

Quick question why do we want to delete adds after 30 days? I always found it is full to scroll back and view similar games and condition possi issues ect ? It was part of the heritage of the site. In my opinion I’d say it’s 15 a year sub to join the site , I think in the day and age if mad pinball pricing that seems very fair ?

We dont delete. They just get "Expired". Those that posted them are able to re-list for another period changing the Expired status to "open" again, or tag them as "sold"..... They are all still visible using filtering... however the default is to only show Ads that are "current".

You can also view old ads, now with their listed prices, by filtering on "Sold Ads".

If someone wants to watch the caetgory in question, you can set up a watch on that particular category... for example i have one set on "machines for sale"....

Click on classifieds
Click on the relavent category
Top right - "Watch" :)

Just to follow up - this is what you get in an email...From Keith's recent post a few mins ago...

ok - Devils advocate here - If i was looking for a machine, i would select the "Machines for sale" category, and scroll down. if there was a second page then i would look at that. There's even a Map to show you where the items are.... https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/classifieds/full-map (as long as the "location" was accurate)... always useful to find a machine thats close to you.

Old way - You would potentially have to scroll to see what was available, then message the person or post to see if it was still for sale....

Because machine Ads time out after 30 days (is 2 clicks to Renew) and parts after i think 45 days, this keeps the listings updated. Also means there isnt 50 threads to dig through to find the item you may be looking for.
No problem Paul just food for thought
And yes you have bought the pinball community on leaps and bounds over the old yahoo group it’s only my opinion and I know nothing about how to host a web site so I am probably not the best person to comment I have tried to see the positive s on the classified and I have sold a couple of things on there but it’s not working for me I will donate something in the next few days to contribute for the things I sold through the classified adds I have a few pins here that I have been holding back on listing hoping things would change and the fact I have been too busy to do it
So I am going to try something different in the next few weeks I wish you all the best with the classified adds Paul and hope you can get everything running smoothly again

Neil is right though!!! If it was a case of just posting where you like then there's no point in having ANY forum categories altogether.... May as well just have a General forum and throw everything into the mire...
It basically is a single general forum when I'm reading posts - I'm sure I can't be the only one who pretty much only uses the What's new button, unless I'm actually starting a new thread (but don't take this as a suggestion that it should actually be changed to a single forum).

Everything changes but I miss the good old days .... and if anyone is looking for me that's where I'll be - send out a patrol and you'll find me :D
Think I will get my geny out and take a pin and my kegerator to the beach, free beer with each game. Can I charge a fiver a game😂

I may as well jump in here;

Perhaps a better approach to Johns post would have been 'hey John, thanks for the update but you do realise that this goes against Forum rules. If you want to update your item here's how you do it, step1).....etc, etc'
rather than giving the guy grief. Perhaps he was unaware of how to go about doing the update. Personally I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and lets be realistic, he's already paid his dues to list it under the 'For trade' category (at least I think that's how it works)

As for the current system of classifieds I really don't get peoples opposition to it. Granted I'm fairly new here and didn't have time to get used to the old way of doing things. I may be mistaken but I seem to remember all classified ads being lumped together which made it a bugger to find the category you were looking for and you had to trawl through a whole load of items that weren't applicable.
The new system couldn't from my perspective be any easier to navigate. 'I'm looking for a machine and there they are, all nicely grouped together, and I can watch a particular item and get updates about it, and contact the seller, and join a discussion about that particular item' Seriously, what could be simpler?
Paul has said that a lot of peoples gripes about the 'new way' have or are being addressed and he's given some pretty straightforward guidance on how to go about using the new format.
Yeah change can be uncomfortable we're all hesitant to accepting it and we're all guilty of proclaiming the old ways were the best. What's that I hear you cry about anaesthetics, don't be stupid, who wants to be put to sleep whilst they're having something amputated?

I really think that classified section was a school boy error. Such a shame, this website was so useful to me when starting out. Chris has been the biggest seller on here for ages. If he takes his wares to Facebook that's a pretty big blow imo. Zuckerberg will happily hoover up the website clicks.

+1 on this, Chris B moving his sales away from here would be a big loss for the community!

If the biggest seller on here is moving because of the new set up, that should speak volumes!

*plus I don’t have Facebook........😀

Also this idea that innovation is good and resistance to change is dumb isn't necessarily true. Please see Google Glass, 3DTV, Xbox Kinect, Windows RT, Google +, Bixby...... There's more

I need to catch up with things but will probably start a Chris b pinballs fb page and post in the pinballs for sale in the uk group run by neil I think
Personally I've bought from you, sold to you, been given dibs by you (sadly when I didnt have the dosh) and frankly get a tingle down below every time I see you've posed something for sale.

I'd wager you are the biggest seller on here by some distance and that works both ways, relatively painless sales for you and very fair prices for the community, if you are considering leaving that should speak volumes to how the new system, however improved it is, isn't really ideal for us fairly long term members. Don't go mate, I fear that might be a major loss for this community, opening it up to FB will see Andrew Tw@thouse or whatever his name was and a hundred more like him grab every deal and flip it and then the whole house of cards comes down. No pressure of course!! ;)

Why can't we just go back to the old way? It's gone a bit to far now with people now selling games else where.

Probably worth giving Paul time to look at the options he said he was looking at:

Paul said: "I'm currently investigating an option where classifieds Ads are part of a forum... So a similar thing to the old way, however templated and presented in a similar way.

I generally use Tapatalk to access the forums, but can't see the classifieds at all now with the new layout, and don't find the website easy to navigate on a phone.

I do appreciate all the effort and time that it must take to maintain the site (as I'm sure most other members do), but I did prefer the old style For sale forum. And I don't generally mind change! :-)

I just use the ‘What’s New’ tab to browse the forum so the classifieds are a big step back for me. It’s not clear if something is for sale or wanted.

I don’t use Facebook so would miss out on sales going there instead.

+1 for going back to the old way. I was happy to give it a go, but it is a big backwards step for the forum IMHO.
