Northern Lights Show - Thanks

Don't forget the Gottlieb Surf Champ,

You crack me up Mr Bird. I can just see it now 10 Popeye's and all the Sega's with a large DMD screen that doesen't work cause you still have not bought any to replace all the broken ones you have.

Love a bit of bannter.

The proportions of machines at the shows, tend to reflect the proportion of machines present in the UK. I travel around the country repairing pins, most of the owners are not collectors, and most of them are not on this group or the other side. In my travels I would say that I see 80% Bally Williams, 15% Data East / Stern, and 5% Gottlieb. It's probably about the same proportion if split by DMD/SS/EM too. There just aren't that many post 1990 Gottlieb pins in the UK ( I believe that in the 90's there was no UK distributor for GTB - I may be wrong ). Over the past 12 Years I've been doing this I can remember servicing at people home, 1 x genesis , 1 x shaq attack, a few Stargates, a couple of SurfnSafari, a couple of 1812s, a Night Moves, two Black Holes, 3 Haunted house. Sure there are others, but so few I can't remember them. So when you turn up a show, it's not surprising that the line-up is biased BW.

No attempt to actually upset anyone was made - Yes, I posted to raise a laugh, which for me is why I read posts. If it's boring - I don't want to read..... If it's a laugh, it keeps my interest. To anyone I have upset, I apologise.

I did state quite clearly that a lot of hard work was put in (so as not to kick these people in the teeth).

I also said "aching for death" - and got pulled up on it. Did anyone really thing that I was ACTUALLY aching to die? Jees people if you didn't see this as an exageration of "I was a little bored" then perhaps you are taking these things a bit too far.

Many people know of my love for the lesser liked games (I LOVE Popeye, and Sega gets my vote everytime). I was simply poijting out that it was a little like the Bally Williams club at the show - but as was rightly pointed out - these are what people like, and thus what people have - and as those people supply games, then that's understandable. I watched a video that someone had made, and it just looked like a lineup of TAFs, etc. It's a shame most people "prefer" B/W games without actually playing some of the other games out there. I have played most, don't prefer B/W, and believe Sega and Gottlieb to be the most reliable games ever made.

I didn't want a rise to my "germs" line - although it was also meant in jest. I appreciate it that a lot of people want to lend their games out - but for me, I don't really want to - plus I wouldn't really want to be there all weekend and I work weekends too, etc etc. All a little too much for me I think. Perhaps that makes me selfish. Probably so.

Thanks to Chris's post - there were ONLY 4 games that were DMD machines and NOT Bally Williams games. As a percentage - I think that's a little low.

Once again - I'm pleased that people enjoyed the show - perhaps the shows maybe aren't for me

BTW - I have just ordered TWO large sega displays - at a cost of nearly $1000. Any one who doesn't believe me can see the receipt. That makes about £2.5k spent on pinball displays this year for me. And you wonder why I don't like to do it!

Now that would make a fantastic show!

Is that not a true reflection on the number of machines out there though - i thought the reason that there are/were more Bally/Williams was because more were bought and therefore more still about ??

The reason there are so many B/W machines is because they are the best. I've had 1 DE, 2 Gottliebs and 3 Sterns and none of them could touch the likes of TAF or Wh2o

Of course not, the accumulation of it all just seemed OTT tbh. Maybe I'll take your BW point after attending a few more events.... Just didn't think it deserved your initial slating.

I've actually just realised who you are. Met and nearly bought a pin off you 18 months ago and would have done so had it not been my desire for a particular machine that you didn't have. Anyway, you seemed a decent bloke back then so will refrain from judging via forums and/or rising to anything in these places again. Had far too much of that on vintage synthesiser forums years ago....

I'm going back to reading in a dark corner of the room....
