New members - say hello right here : )

Hi,

I'm Nick (45) from Tewkesbury in the South West of England.

I played pinball a little bit in the 1990s on nights out when I was a student, but I was awful at it. I was more into video games and I had Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies on my computer which were favourites at the time. Within the past few years, my taste for real pinball was rekindled by The Pinball Arcade. I now own a Popeye and a Sopranos and I like to spend a few hours at Tilt Brum whenever I get the chance. I have been to Pinfest before and I'm going again this year.

Welcome Nick. Get yourself along to a league meet. Last one of the season in Weston.

Hello all,

Just wanted to step out of the shadows to say hi and thanks to all the people we’ve encountered in the UK pinball scene, at Flipout and Tilt and Chief Coffee, and people from these forums who have been so friendly and enthusiastic.

My son (10) and I (41) have been getting into pinball the last couple of years and just picked one up (NBA Fastbreak from TheBestOfTheBunch) so we can get in some practice at home (play skills for him and play/maintenance/tinkering skills for me). Have got a few future pinball plans but right now want to see if I can keep one machine in good nick and get it playing as well as possible.

Got tickets for Daventry too, my son cannot wait for the summer hols!

Cheers again - Tom (& Joel)

Hi all, my name is Paul and based near Coningsby, Lincolnshire. Bought my first coin-op machine 11years ago and the bug soon bit. Being 45, my favourite machines as a kid were the early 80's games but the past few years I've come to appreciate the older EM games (the clunks and relative reliability) more - interested in all amusement equipment.

Owned a 1966 Williams Full House and a 1967 Rally Playboy a few years back - the FH was a bit of a wreck but the PB was nice condition - they both went due to too many other projects and a lack of time and space to get into them. Guess what, still short of both but an opportunity to re-home a reasonable looking 1974 Williams Sky Lab turned up last week and I knew I had to have it - been going over it over the w/e trying to establish what's needed to get it working 100% after best part of 10yrs inactivity. Seems to start up and run ok but havn't been able to play test it properly yet due to perished rubbers ... really looking forward to getting to grips with it as someone who's never really got into playing them previously but with a love of old machines and a long-time fascination in how they work.

Good evening all!
My name is John & I live in Norwich. I am attempting to scratch a 38 year old itch in owning a Pinball machine. I have this evening been chatting to a really nice guy from The UK Pinball Club @James & he has very kindly introduced me to this site. I have always had a love for Pinball, I believe it started with playing tables many years ago on Great Yarmouth pier with my dad.
Hope you are all well and look forward to chatting to you guys...All the best
John

Welcome john . Not too far from you and have a place in Norfolk so may catch up at some point

Morning gents, recently discovered this site and figured as im looking to own a pinball in the near future this could be the perfect place to start.
Some years back I did own a Zaccaria Supersonic EM machine unfortunately the back glass was disintegrating and i was struggling to keep it going so ended up letting her go :-(
Ideally im looking for an entry level DMD Pin (LW3) to get me going with the end game being a TZ (the end game may never happen looking at current pin prices)
Looking forward to reading the oh so many different threads on here , maybe get to know the pin community and hopefully gain/learn some vital maintenance tips and quite probably alot of help along the way
Cheers
Stef

Hi there,

A long time ukvac lurker I am loving the forum for building up my pin knowledge! I am one of the owners of Four Quarters arcade bars, a regular at Tilt Birmingham and currently working on sizing up if I can get a machine in my house (with an eye on any X-men that comes up!).

I also play a fair bit of VPX and all the official FX tables.

Cheers all!

I'm Ed here in Kent. A new dad so getting a pinball machine seemed like my next midlife crisis event. Hopefully soon to own my first pinball machine so I am very interested in any books, YouTube channels or links on SS pinball maintenance and repair for dummies. Theres some great threads I've found on here already which have been a great start. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the baby. Be prepared that once you get one machine it will want to multiply untill you don't own any other furniture! There's plenty of YouTube channels who give tips on maintaining machines - TNT Amusements is very entertaining while good at giving rundowns on machines and what to look out for. Don't be afraid of getting stuck in, that's how we all learn!

Welcome Ed.
Been here just over a year, get ready for it taking over your life.
Only thinking myself, after reading the EOS Funhouse thread, is there any literature for maintenance/fault finding, other than here, pinside and YouTube?

http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/ is very handy. Some of the system rundowns are really detailed breaking down boards and chips and what they do etc.

Hello from Pembrokeshire,

My name is Bob, I'm 67 and have been playing pinball since the 60s. Until recently, I thought that, owning a pinball machine was just a pipe dream. Now I am in a position I haven't been in for many years (more money coming in than going out) , plus I have loads of space and there's no one to tell me I can't.

I don't really have a preference for which machine I get, I figure I can get used to anything by now (maybe, after a while, I'll start to be a bit selective but , right now, I'm keen to get something). Only 'must have' for me is that it is working (I'd like to cut my teeth maintaining a working machine rather than jump straight in on a project).

Talking of buying a machine, I saw somewhere that there is a buyer's guide under one of the threads. I presume that covers what to look for and what questions to ask, does it also cover the buying sequence? By that I mean is it something like that seller posts, buyer replies, then PM to do the negotiation, etc. At what stage does the money change hands (assuming it is not being picked up in person?) On this last point, I see lots of mentions of Martin, I presume he is the specialist transport, does he cover West Wales? Questions, questions, questions.... I have got loads, Is there a FAQ that I can browse? I'm sure the info I'm looking for is already available but there is so much information here it will take me an age to find out. I'd rather be getting on with making a purchase...)

Apologies for the waffle

Regards
Bob

Hello everyone.

Just joined on the advice of the friendly person at Domino Arcade.

I live in Sandhurst, Berkshire, fit bathrooms for a living and ironically run a football forum so it's nice to enjoy the fruits of somebody else's labour.

I have been playing on my mates TOM for the best part of 20 years and finally decided to take the plunge. I am a novice though and know very little about the wider subject but I'm hurriedly trying to play catch-up.

My garden man/cave is two thirds completed and I currently have my first ever pinball (Bally Popeye) set-up in my lounge. The whole family have become addicted to it despite their initial skepticism. My wife is now concerned that she'll have nothing to play when it eventually moves into the garden and wants another (a truly bizarre turn of events). She's even taken to goading me during the day by posting screenshots of her scores on WhatsApp.

Anyway, the bug has well and truly been caught, the only question is whether 3 or 4 will fit into the soon to be finished shed!

I'm nowhere near the standard to join competitions but am certainly keen to attend events in the future.
