My experience owning my First Pinball Machine (unfortunately things have not been so great so far)

For those asking I believe the sellers username on here is ClaireMac

Thanks again for those also helping with the fault finding.
ClaireMac is not a well known respected member of the community. Unless those 6 messages were particularly merit worthy?

The problem with mods that draw power the machine wasn't designed for it so it blows fuses .

If fitting lighted mods then you need a power driver board, pinball bizaar sell one called feed frenzy and a separate power supply
Thank the pinball gods someone told me… otherwise, I would have blown up my very lovely LoTR…

[sorry for the OT everyone]

The price suggested £700 - £900 ……………
Well unfortunately the buyer did his homework by asking on here first and was told £2K. And that seems to be what a number of people expect to pay. Even though a year ago £800 was sitting around unsold.

What is with these player condition games going for top dollar recently.
Lockdown mainly. People at home all day. Economy unstable so more tempting to spend money on assets like classic cars etc than leaving it in the bank. It's predictable to be honest.

I wonder if prices will settle in couple years time when people get back to real life again.

I think the classic car market is very comparable. It peaks and troughs like a rollercoaster. There was a time when you could buy an E Type project for less than £10K. That time never came again. There was a time in around 1999 when I was looking to buy a Porsche 911 3.2 convertible for £16k...that's now probably more like £50k. There have been peaks and troughs in the meantime.

The peaks get higher.

The troughs don't tend to get lower.

It was the same with dogs - puppies doubled in price during lockdown, then people went back to work and noticed how expensive and time consuming they are to keep, so loads ended up in rescue centres.

It's only a matter of time before we see TAFs chained up to the railings outside arcades, abandoned by owners unable to pay the maintenance costs. Daytime TV will be showing charity commercials asking for just £20 to help rebuild a flipper.

I'm not putting my hand in my pocket until I see at least 2 TAF's on the back of a Sudanese Donkey.

Was an arcade with n Barry not far off this, the TAF was basically out the back door with like 5 bulbs working and like black from ball dirt. Never seen a machine in such bad condition.

No worries, you can fit all the mods you want, just get a feed frenzie board from here:

Other forum members might advise other places to get them

When I go to get a power supply for it I will drop you a PM with the details.

I’m late to the party here- its disappointing you didn’t get what you thought you were buying and it sounds like the seller has sold you short on the description. Not surprised to see lots of members giving you good advice, technical help and free parts. There’s a good bunch on here; but spare a thought for lots of other noobs who’ve been sold a kipper and still haven’t discovered our community. Maybe ignorance is bliss and they don’t know they’ve paid over the top given HLD and Liberty show up with their mental prices on Google first.

Thanks very much for your input. Yes the seller failing to identify the ramp and especially the Pop Bumper has given me a headache. Though thanks to the great much of people on here I am working on the repair with assistance for which I am very grateful for.

Yeah I fell sorry for people also who get shafted on sales of Pins and many other items. My friend who really likes Pinball was saying to me, he would be absolutely screwed and would not know where to start with any fault finding etc should that have happened to him. The prices that that the Liberty games sell stuff is insane, and as you say many will have bought from them that's for sure.

Mine had loads of mods (previous owner) and was fine without an external power supply, the volcano mod went short circuit so blew a fuse.
Not sure you could have had many more mods on it!

Sorry to hear about your experience @RetroHeed.

I overpaid on my first two pins, one I still own, the other I sold for a small profit, it's not uncommon when entering this hobby from my experience.

It sounds like you have a lot of love for this title, I would recommend making this into an opportunity to begin your maintenance journey, screw the seller onwards and upwards 💪

Refurbishment of the pops should be achievable and will a rewarding experience once done. Do one at a time as you'll have two others for reference. Don't overtighten the nuts on the end of the metal ring. The most difficult task I've found is soldering the lamp holders in place but with perseverance I've got there.

I'll have a look in my spares box I think I may have some spare (new) parts for you (no charge), I'll PM you later tonight after I've had a chance to look.

Best wishes
Chris
