More pins wanted than for sale

prices never going down. that’s my view.

I agree. Seen this in the synthesizer market for years. Some level out for a while but like houses, all of the older models go up over time despite new models being churned out at probably the highest level ever currently. My Roland Jupiter 8 synth from the 80's bought for £1,000, sold for £2,000 many years ago is now in the region of £18,000 +

The only issue with pins is space (creating more tombstoning) but with popularity and demand always on the increase, those prices will keep on going I reckon.

I definitely want more pins than I'm selling :tut:

I'm glad I've built up a small collection before the lock-in.

Im at the point of selling my recently acquired super loaded no expense spared JP Pro. I’ve played it maybe a dozen times since it arrived a few weeks ago and it’s just not for me for many reasons I’ll not go into.
Before even listing it on here I have had 3 offers for what I paid (6k) and an extra £200 to jump to the front and collect tomorrow! “He says tomorrow at least 3 times each week” 🤣

So for me at least pins seem to be selling themselves and both my HS2 & JY went to pinfo members just at the very mention of them in a thread. I did list HS2 but it was just to push someone into a decision as I needed to move it quickly.
in fact I often get asked almost on a weekly basis if I am thinking of moving A or B that happen to be in my signature but TBH I’m guilty of this if my normal goto guy hasn”t a lead on one I’ll try hunt one out.

Personally I dont get how the classics are now encroaching into new Pro territory pricing! My thinking is today’s current NIB pins in many situations will be future classics anyhow and hopefully In my lifetime. Many of the newer pins that rarely come up go instantly which is a good indicator of where they will sit in the future.

I gave up looking for a DPLE so bought NIB from Phil and don’t regret it one second. Will it go up in value? Doubtfull and I really don’t care but try finding one.
In the grand scheme of things Pinflation has been good to me over the past 30 odd years and the dozens of £500-1.5k classics I’ve had many many times over will not take the space of my current newer lineup at the prices they are now commanding.
For me life’s too short to live on nostalgia and I want to sample all the delights new pins offer, I love the hype train and always excited to stand over the latest offering from whoever. GnR has proved this to me, problems aside and negativity thrown around that thread goes over my head as when you see and play this pin in the flesh it’s in another Galaxy and nothing whatsoever Classic or anything from stern comes close.

Just like Colin I don't get how the old classic encroach into the NIB Pro price bracket. I much rather like to spend 6k on a NIB with a deep ruleset than 5-6k on a TAF. I like TAF but it is a bit shallow compared to a jp2 for example.

I also think that NIBs haven't increased in price as much as the old classic. But I have no evidence to back this up. It would be interesting to see if anyone has any data.

Agreed with a lot of this Col, except for the bit about Jurassic Park, which I believe to be the greatest pinball of all time! But we do agree on Deadpool...!

But yeah the classic prices encroaching onto new games is totally bonkers to me. I would take one great LCD Stern over 3 Bally Williams games all day long. I agree that these newer games will become classics in their own right going forward.

As for the hype train I easily fall onto this as well. I see a posh light show or Michael Myers popping out from behind a hedge and I start bargaining with my gf to let me have an extra pin downstairs 😂

The secret is not to tell the Wife/GF as you just slot it in and they don’t even notice! Well mine doesn’t but so be careful on delivery day I have been caught out once or twice with my timings hehe.

I have to admit it for games I like I’m a hoarder - I’ve let a few go that I know I can get again (or I’m not we keen on - (stern Sam games mostly) Williams games though I’ve got a Star Trek TNG that was in my garage but after a month I loaned it to Dan and got a No Fear that I’m about to loan to someone. Both are great examples and if I sold them to get them back likely cost more than twice what I paid for them.

The issue is also how lazy people are - there are plenty pinball machines outside the UK you just have put the effort in to bring them in.

With the EU vote (which effectively was a vote to make the UK poorer without significant change in our economic approach), bozos sticking money into bozocoin, and the cost of covid there is a significant economic reset coming; it won’t take prices down from a for sale forum point of view but it will absolutely cause more fire sales of games - seeing more of these fire sales already were someone needs cash badly and prices are cheap.

To be honest, if you have the space and the money why would you sell. Would probably call you a collector @Neil McRae and not a hoarder. At least your games are powered up and ready to play. I know a look of people who own them and not even have them set up.

No fear is a great game. sold mine to Zac earlier in the year - wish I had not.

A lot of machines that Tobin 'finds' for others come from outside the UK. You are right, people can be lazy but also - sellers do not want to deal with people overseas/in a different country. I have exported 3 times and each time was a pain (pre brexit).

If someone was to get a van like Nick at Pins anon used to do, and travel mainland europe you could pick up plenty of games. But these days the prices are so high, back then AFM/MB was sub £1500 and CC/MM changed hands for £2-2.5K. These days you would have to lower the standard of titles you bring back, or have a massive bank account balance.

Then no doubt you would pay VAT when you get off the boat in the UK.....

I done exactly what you mentioned, I bought a cheap van, bid and won 4 pins on German eBay then with one of the 1st Garmin car GPS systems imported from America I spent 2 days picking them up and ended coming home with seven in total so he cheapest being a nasty TAF for £450 the most expensive a stunning STTNG for £750 I later exported back to the USA with a little help from Phil at P.H.
Oh those were the days.

Edit. I forgot to mention I sold the Van for exactly what I paid and only insured it for 1 month as it was cheaper than hiring one.
