Lightning flippers FT

And of course, there's no accounting for taste, as well.

An easy game I'll probably play once for an hour, then never want to return to again (I'm looking at you MB.)

Whereas a game that tantalises me while kicking me repeatedly in the dick will have me angrily trying to beat it forever. Just ask Steve one day and he'll tell you that I really ought to give up on my quest to see Portal Multiball on Tron.

“Snapped one of the bolts like I thought I would, seems shaft is smaller as hole is virtually closed up but anyway had a rebuild kit so nicked the bolt and sorted”

I’ve checked the size of shaft and there’s no discernible difference between the types. I think the problem you have is that the pawls have been overtightened over time. Each time you release and retighten the clamp you pinch the clamp up a little further each time. Eventually you tighten it so much that the open ends of the clamp are now touching. However much you tighten the bolt the clamp has nowhere left to go and won’t pinch the shaft any firmer. The trick with a new pawl is to tighten it only just enough to fix the shaft. After the clamp starts to grip it only needs about 3/4 of a turn to grip firmly.

When I first put them on I tightened it just enough as you said but they moved up and the pawls were brand new, after that they were undone and done up about 3 times. The flipper mechs were bought from pinball heaven quite a few years ago but just fitted, as you probably know the lightning flippers from you.
Guess you need the knack for the tightness so unless you do this quite often it’s a bit hit or miss.
Is there a torque setting for doing this nut up, as that would stop brutes like me destroying it☺️

I try to just replace the nylon links and use original pawls where possible as they are better made than the repros

Ok the way I see it is, if you’re crap at playing put standard flippers on. If you’re good leave the lightening ones on, if you’re really crap install a mini post between the flippers. Amen

I thought they looked more flimsy than the originals that came off. I will be rebuilding the originals that came off.
Just about to order lightning flippers and a pair of pawls for BSD, can’t wait to tighten them up😬
