JJP The Godfather

"yawn" the films are like watching paint dry, they go on for hours and seem like 20. Every time I've tried to watch them I've fallen asleep, (I have seen them completely 😀 in multiple seasons). I just can't see how this would work as a pin. Maybe they have a orange peel and scare the grandchild multiball if you drain the video shows you dying.

Good to see @Neil McRae back posting 😃

Must be a favourite of Slash. Think some of his work is on it. I liked the movies. Preferred Goodfellas though. Only watched them once. Have no inclination to play thru any of the movies..

TBH Scooby Doo is the only new pin that looks decent..

Can’t wait to see the comparison IP wise between GF 50th and Bond 60th.
Well let’s face it the fact Bond is £25k classic layout pin with a BOM of around 2k even a GF CE at 10k+ less has got to be better in every respect surely?

FF albeit looks great and has super fast flow seems heavily gimped on mechs and I suspect is going to rely heavily on code. Bear in mind as @Neil McRae said “jack has so more to put in it” refers to code as the pin is in production so WYSISYG. I only hope that brutal right outlane that gave them so much grief on he stream can be fixed with code but not how they did it with GB as it still didn’t fix the annoying flipper fiasco. GB could have been a perfect 10/10 for me but the drains done my tits in so I let it go.

I stand by the fact Bang for Buck Scooby trumps all the new pins so far! It’s well packed with no restrictions on the BOM as its got the lot. 6 Drops, pops, Bash Toy Mech, upper playfield, magnets and those super funky cocks that chuck the balls out at the bottom and a lot more.
Couple this fact with some fresh ideas being a wide body Pin to accommodate the ramps and returns so as not to clutter the PF too much. Also the upper PF is set further back into the cabinet to make the best use of all that real estate so for me they onto a winner and I cant wait.

Back on track with GF I wont comment until I see what they have but admit it’s not a theme that excites me. However gameplay can trump a theme as we have saw many times in the past with **** themes and great games. Case in point I have even heard people say the hate GZ as a theme but love the flow and gameplay.

Long live JJP as It’s all good having as many manufacturers as possible to counter sterns attitude of chipping away at the BOM with less mechs, classic layouts and raped Pro versions at 8.5k. I actually think Neil’s meme of the laughing gangsters are really the board of stern taking the **** out of us all as we suckered every time into buying these overpriced toys no matter how much they remove and hike the price. I blame US! For buying them aand im a guilty party too.

‘Heavily gimped on mechs’ jeez ,what a phrase!!…

Lots of mechs doesn’t make a good game. Been proved many times. Look at tron, hardly any mechs on that.. ff for the win for me personally. Spooky games, good luck :)

Godzilla has plenty of mechs but ultimately it's the shots that keep me playing. The wonder of the bridge collapsing has long gone.

AIQ has the best shots but it's not the lack of mechs that turns me off...... it's those pesky rules, cheap animations and callouts.

If FF has good shots then it will be fine because it already looks fun and cool.

Godfather could be anything but I'll reserve judgement until I see it.

I do wonder if the ball will stop frequently whilst film clips are played?

I couldn't think of anything more boring than fishing yet Fishtales has outlasted every other game I've ever owned....Sopranos is a good respected game based on a long running mafia series so I'm sure JJP can convert the 3 films into an epic game like they did the Hobbit imho!

Exactly, why some people want it to fail before it's even released is pathetic, more new pins can only be a good thing for the hobby! It's a really exciting time for pinball, hopefully more competition might bring the prices back down, time will tell.

Happy flippin peeps, stay positive, enough negative nancies out there as it is! 😊

Whatever you think of JJP, without them entering the market with WOZ (inc.LCD, a ton of toys, mega deep rules etc) Stern would still be churning out cheap ass games like BBH, Avatar and Rolling Stones.

Compare the games they were putting out 10 years ago with the likes of GZ, DP and FF. That's because they have to fight harder for their market share in 2023 than they did in 2013

Just wished JJP get those flippers sorted.
They don’t feel too good.
We keep hearing how BoM pushed prices up.
Is the new norm to pay 16k LE for fresh air with just great shots and no mechs or innovation.

I don’t think GF was a theme JJP would have naturally done. Maybe with Eric being friendly with Slash got swayed into taking it on.
Still hope they pull it out the bag…

Absolutely.

Competition is good.

All of my games are Sterns and they're probably my favourites but even I can see the danger of a Stern monopoly. They're already taking the p!$$ but at least they are having to keep and eye on Scooby Doo, TNA etc.

The very best thing for pinball would be Godfather, Scooby and FF all being great games and fighting it out for the Twipy awards.

I didn’t

I didn’t say been gimped on mechs was a bad thing I was in about BOMs !
How come they can’t take em all out and change more? Why not take em out and charge less?
I love the look of FF I’m not knocking it and actually missed out on an LE as I’m in Japan ATM and didn’t even see the reveal. Looks great and seem to flow great, has art to die for and I’m a fan of Jack and more so as he called Danger.
But it’s still gimped with no mechs and you being overcharged for that fact! Prove me wrong in that not gameplay. I love TNA.

And long live JJP I’ve had 4 of there pins and enjoyed them all and have a Wonka on the way.

A really, really good point this, and I never thought about it like that before.

Between SWE1 in 1999 and WOZ in 2013, Stern had zero competition.

JJP showed the likes of CGC, Spooky, American Pinball and Dutch that new pinball companies could be viable.

I'm not knocking Stern, as they single handedly kept the hobby going for 15 years. But there was a massive drop in quality from CV, AFM, MB, MM etc, and the games Stern released after the decline of Bally WMS with their pixelated cabs, photoshopped playfield art, naff themes and bare playfields

I suppose you had to be there. WMS had tried and failed to keep it alive with P2K. Mr pinball Australia tried to revive Bally and build first MM and then Croc hunter but spent most of their time slapping Cease and Desists on everyone. No one was buying and operating pinballs and Stern struggled on by selling lower cost machines.
JJP threw their hat in the ring and were supposed to build family friendly themes with no difference in the models (looking at you GNR and Godfather). Unfortunately it showed Stern just how much they could charge. From there, even with other competition they all appear to be charging astronomical amounts for some of these.

Pretty much spot on. Doesn’t feel that long ago when we put those original mm/cc deposits down in what felt like a new era starting

I don’t get all he hate for the theme.

I’d far rather have a mafia themed game than yet another generic superhero one.

Is anyone seriously going to prefer a wheel of fortune, csi theme to this?

Look at all the love Star Wars gets from grown men. All the interest In the world and four pins based around it and they are all ****e.

In ten years time people will still know the Godfather films. Who will care for Avengers episode 27?

Godzilla is a great game despite the theme. Led Zepplin is a great theme but an utter yawn fest.

There are a couple more SW pins, John. An early* solid-state from Segasa (I think, someone here [ronsplooter] has/had one, or I'd not have known), and The Empire Strikes Back from Australian manufacturer Hankin. A wide body with infinity backglass a la Space Invaders.

* well, it looked like one; I'd have thought it was more like a 1977 game than 1987, as was mentioned in the thread about it

That's one of the reasons I like my CSI, having a darker theme with murders, dead bodies appeals to me more than superheroes.

It could be great, all depends on the execution, the only downside with a crime/gangster theme is the upcoming Pulp Fiction.
