Irish Pinball League ???

Hi all,

Ive been thinking for a while now to try and get an Irish pinball league going.

I currently have 10 machine (5 or 6 setup) and I am willing to host on my own but obviously it would be better if we had a few locations that we could play.

I have access to an event space (central Belfast) so could possibly use it for a few meets also (just to mix it up a bit).

I am based in belfast and there a few others about the area that are into pinball, most dont have machines and come to me for their pinball fix.

So basically this is a call out to anybody on the better side of the Irish sea that would be interested in a pinball league ?

Possibly start with a meet and then have see how we get on from there.

I currently have a group of 5 or 6 really interested and a few more that I might be able to get signed up.

So if you have any interest can you post on here or email me and I will make up a list of interested parties(ian.craig (at) mac.com). Also if you are willing/able to host let me know.
Basically you will need to have 3 machines or be able to host 3 machines as this is the minimum requirement for a league meet. Maybe you and a few mates have a machine or two each, can you pool together and host a meet?

League season runs from September until early July and we need at least 4 meets to offically be a league so every other month seems very doable.
The league meets are usually midday until about 5ish on a sunday but we can sort out the logistics of it better when we have numbers and look at the geography of it etc.

Take a look at the uk pinball league site for the finer details of hosting, scoring etc

www.ukpinballleague.co.uk/rules.php
www.ukpinballleague.co.uk/faq.php

Let me know your thoughts.

If youre Irish and reading this but dont usually post, here is your oportunity to get posting (or email if you are shy)
Also if you enjoy pinball but dont have a machine, here is your chance to get some games to play.

Cheers
Ian

Ok

Ive had a few responses so far.

Got the possibility of three meet sites, Belfast, Donegal and Dublin West.

Anyone else hiding out there ? Time to step up and be counted. No need to have machines just want to play a few machines...

Come on lets get this thing rolling

Ian,
Am I on that list?
I'm in Kildare.
Have 3 games ATM but hopefully a 3rd coming soon.(edit!should be 4th)

I talked to a guy ages ago about a fish tales. An OP.
wants to get rid of it.
Said its coming in off site the 2nd week in September !
Going to buzz him on Monday coming and see what the deal is.

Coolio, really like FT.

Feel free to pass him my way if you are not interested

I can assure you that wont be happening!
He might even have two but he doesnt know.
He didnt even know the names of the games
only reason I know it was fish tales is because he said theres a fish on top of it!

Ok guys and girls,

The Irish pinball league

Been working on this on and off as time allows. Been talking to some of the guys and we now have a couple of sites to host meets. The first meet will be in Belfast on the last Sunday of November (30th) the next meet will be in the new year in Kildare (west of Dublin) we are hoping to also get a meet sorted for Donegal area but nothing firm as yet.

So anyway, put Sunday 30th November in your diaries for a good days craic and a bit of pinball. It's going to be a league meet but it's more about getting pinball back on the map. So no mater your skill level, or even if you have never played before and fancy a look at some real pinball machines, come along and see what it's all about.

Time and exact location will be posted soon, but it will be in Belfast.

If you want to attend you can register your interest at Irish.pinball.league@gmail.com and we will send out addresses and directions to each venue a few days before the event.

Also if you are interested in hosting a meet please also get in touch at the same address Irish.pinball.league@gmail.com

Don't worry if you can't make all the meets especially as they are quite far apart geographically, but if you can get to one or two you will be included in the league. We will also try to assist with lifts etc where possible.

Big thanks to Dave, Leo, Gary, Jim and Greg for helping get this off the ground.
Look forward to seeing some new faces at the end of the month.
Cheers
Ian

sooo glad to read that IT IS all about the fun!!

Fantastic and well done and many thanks to Ian for setting up the Irish league! This is awesome mate that this is a goer.

Can I encourage anyone who's able to support the new Irish league. You'll have a great fun time with other pinheads and ss the guys on here have already said it's more an excuse to meet up, socialise, play and talk pinball for an afternoon than about the league competition itself and all players regardless of age, experience or ability always very welcome and I can't put it any better than Poibug already has as I've just proved!:)

Good luck Ian and hope you all have a great time and the Irish league becomes firmly established as part of the UK league.

Cheers
Greg

PS I'll emaill you shortly re your qus

Forgot to add that meets will be starting shortly in other regions for the new season and we cover pretty much the whole of the UK so if you've not been to a meet before can only emphasise the comments above about the fun and social side and fact you don't need to be any good to join and compete and may even surprise yourself at how well you do.

So do check out the calendar on the uk pinball website http://www.ukpinballleague.co.uk/schedule.php and for updates on facebook and try to make it along to a meet or two this season especially if you've not been before.

Most queries you may have are covered by the FAQ on the league website but if you've got any others do feel free to contact me or your regional co-ordinator.

Cheers
Greg

Just a quick bump for this.

The Irish pinball league officially kicks off next Sunday !,

We are using the event space at Farset labs in Belfast for the first meet and hoping to get some newbies involved
Farset labs is a 'hacker space' which is basically a youth club for geeks. They have loads of Resources and facilities for people to make whatever they want to make. There is a kitted out workshop with lathes etc and a electronics area with solder stations and even 3d printers for making whatever takes your fancy.

Again no pinball skills are required it's more of a social gathering with a pinball focus. Come along and see what all the fuss is about.

Practice on Sunday (30th November) is from midday until 2.00pm at which time the league games will be played on a selection of machines and hopefully winding up around 6:00pm depending on numbers etc. £2 entry for adults, children free. All machines on free play.

Address is

Farset labs
1 Weavers court business park
Linfield Road
Belfast
BT12 5GH

Check out their website www.farsetlabs.org.uk

See you there...

Ok All

The machines being used for the league will be.

The Addams Family
Creature from the black Lagoon
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle

There should hopefully be a few non league machines available to play also...

See you on Sunday

Reliability and time really.

Depending on how many players turn up there might not be enough time to allow everyone to play 5 or 6 machines each.

Also some of my machines are not in top condition so can't really be relied on to play faultlessly all day.

Ok all

Great days crack today and thanks for all that turned up (special thanks go out to Ben, Jim and Dave that showed their commitment to pinball with their travels from Waterford, Donegal and Naas)

Ive been out sick most of this week which meant we had less machines than anticipated and a couple didn't survive the move to Farset Labs intact (well fully operational anyhow)

Still we ventured on with the three fully working machines Addams Family, Creature from the black Lagoon and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. and twenty competitors recorded scores on all machines as follows.

Karen Galway 6,000,750 1,185,980 75,750,350

Good to see so many Junior players turning up and actually enjoying playing pinball. Great to meet their parents also.

Looks like the next meet will be in February near Naas in Southern Ireland where we should have a few more operational machines than today (no pressure Dave)

Hopefully my Flu will have passed by then.

Just got six machines back to my garage there now so I'm off to have some breakfast (it was that sort of day) and then head to Bed

Cheers All

Ian
