IFPA19 - Pinball World Championship

Here we go then, it's all about to kick off!!

Here is the link to the standings

Here is the stream link

If last nights fireworks are anything to go by, this is going to be truly amazing

All starts at 6pm our time

@Czard @mufcmufc @PUP we are rooting for you guys!!!

Round 3 just starting and the stream is back. It’s Andy’s turn to be in Elwin’s group, with game 3 being on Godzilla…

Josh better after lunch, won Lucky Hand

On Ball 3 of Robocop had MB ready, ball heading deep into the right outlane, somehow he managed to shake shimmy the ball back up to everyone’s amazement, then hit the next jump for the MB ended with the High Score of 5.6M, (special thanks to @Matt Vince for selling me his Robocop a few years back!!)

Second on Mystwry Castle ended a much better round with 19 points

Andy added another 13 points, unfortunately passed by Keith on Ball3 of GZ

Nick got unlucky with a malfunction on Baywatch, resetting his drop targets after a stuck flipper but still added 11 points

It was interesting listening to Arvid on comms just now. He was going “uh oh” a solid second before I even realised the ball was heading for trouble. I guess this is one of the many differences between these guys and the mortals

Josh put up 171k on Time Fantasy with Roy going past to 237k

When Luke was practising the game reset and scores were increasing by flipping so void and moved to Wizard instead

Josh put up 146k which was enough for the win

On Torpedo Ally Josh put up 2.9M on his first ball and added little else on balls two and three. Even clean shots to the lock weren’t always going up.

Another win, next best 1.1M

Onto Jaws where it was hard to get the ball under control from plunge. Two dangers at the start was common, Josh had a poor game of 35M tilting two balls, but ended up third for a 17 point round

He’s now tied with Andy on 54 points at the halfway stage

On Astronaut Josh and Roy both ended up on 4095 so split the points for first and second, six each

Big Buck Hunter, Karl moved to an early lead (on the exact machine he got to Open Season on), Josh was last on ball3 but got his MB going and came back to take second

Lost in Space going into ball 3 Josh and Roy had 16M chasing Karl on 32M and Reidar on 54M

Josh started three MB in a row then worked his way to a second Robot MB, being careful on his single danger as the 2x gave him a 53M bonus and it looked like his final 153M would get him the win

Roy then came back from 16M with a very controlled MB taking several 5M JPs before boosting to 15M and hitting three of those, just coming past Josh to win with 166M

A 16 point round for Josh

Round Six tonight started at 10:45, so a late night for all!

Nico put up 112k on Viking in single player mode, Josh followed that with 183k

Johannes and Eric then followed both going past those scores but on ball3 the game reset with Eric well in the lead

Ruling was even though the players agreed on the scores, without a photo, both had to replay from scratch!

Johannes went ahead on ball 1 but Eric had a horrid game coming last meaning Josh got second

“That’s pinball!”

On Hoops, Johannes put up 4.8M, Josh nailed his plunge and nearly caught up on Ball 3 with 4.3M, enough for another second

Eric found his shots on Iron Maiden and got to Cyborg on his first ball ending on 582M

Not much else on the board, Johannes started ball 3 with 38M was quickly on two dangers but finished some time later with 1.1B, amazing to watch him save so many balls without a tilt

Josh on 9M ball 3 hit the super skill but couldn’t find shots, though his 26M was enough for third and a 13 point round

Nick wasn’t feeling well mostly managing a win with a third/fourth

Andy was exhausted in the final round and only took 3 points

Josh ended the day on 83 points, Andy on 68, Nick on 66

Final two rounds tomorrow morning!!

In this brutal format, until the very end almost no one is in and no one is out, but my god what a day for Josh.

I'd say that is the most impressive day 1 ever for any Brit in any IFPA. Truly outstanding.

Now it's all about these final 2 rounds in the morning, all our guys can still do it. Rest up chaps 👊

So, the cutline last year at IFPA18 was 100 points, it does fluctuate, 98 could get you a playoff, or it might be 102, but my guess is it will be 100 again.

Which would mean that Josh needs to average 9 in each of the last 2 rounds. Andy needs 16 and Nick needs 17 in each round. All definitely possible, but all will need to bring their absolute best, it's going to be so so exciting.

We are all supporting you guys, we know you can do this 👊
