If you had £4k and only one machine at home . . . .

. . . what would you chose?

Obviously there's an underlying motive to my question but I am interested in your thoughts.

It's easy to say "what's your favourite pin" but this takes the brand new Sterns & JJP's out of the equation.

Tron for that money for me (on the understanding that a secondhand Star Wars Pro is over £4k!)

ST pro plays faster and smoother but hard to find under the 4k mark , but having said that Marc is selling his on eBay at the mo for £3900 !
Next one is a Tron ,what can I say ,it's awesome !!

For me theme counts for everything. Play loads at a tournament - good working ones with the sound up and go from there. I fell in love with a lot through the theme being of interest and a couple of plays. Long term longevity though I think is going to be subjective. If you love the theme you'll hold onto it longer.

Had mine since August and still don’t have a clue what’s going on😂
Don't let that put you off if a nice one is available.

Well having read 'The History of Middle Earth' and everything else by Tolkien I was hoping that I might have some inside knowledge. 😬

My son loves all that too, we were playing LOTR last night with a beer as you do and he said why don’t you set it to 5 balls dad😂

This weekend my wife took the kids to the Midlands to visit family.

On Friday I collected a curry and 8 bottles of chilled beer. It was my first quality bit of 'alone time' with Captain Picard & crew.

What a fantastic evening I had.

I'm sorry to report that no scores were broken but I was deliriously happy shouting drunken obscenities at a pinball which clearly didn't like me very much.

In the end I wasn't even really playing the game. I was just trying to hit the same ramp shot over and over because it felt good. 🍺🍺

Yah or you might get a Star Trek for that money now. Iron Man is another great game.

What do you want for your money?

A classic, kid friendly, tough, easy...?

LOTR sounds like your ideal machine, and can be had for £4K (and you’ve seen pics of my game, which isn’t £4K!). It’s a slower game than say Iron Man which will metaphorically and physically ‘rip you a new one’ with it’s perfect balance of simplicity and difficulty. I think Spideman is a lovely balanced game. TZ is also great if you like the Bally/Williams build quality and a packed playfield, but it has inferior sound quality (that you get used to but vs STTNG it’s a step backwards)

I appreciate that.

The kids can play the STTNG anyway.

TAF - the theme, sounds, art, gameplay, PLUS reliability. Still takes very good money on location.

TAF is quite simple mechanically. I have had mine 20 years and it is remarkably reliable, it has always been the most dependable of all my games. A maintained Addams will probably give you less trouble than a NIB game or modern Stern. Plenty of spares about on the off chance you need some.

It really is the complete package. 25+ years on it is still the gold standard of all pinball machines IMHO.
