Apparently so. I have just ordered a sd card and WiFi for 16 quid. Just need to hook I to the qr reader to register the game. So as long as you can register it I sider connected stand alone for 16 quid!

So, you can do it but:
to register your game you need the qr reader (I just connected a long ethernet cable to my existing).
to add additional players to the home team you need the qr reader connected (it needs this to qualify insider connected kit).
I suspect it won't do an auto code update?

Really pleased that this works, awaiting Wi-Fi dongles but got impatient so tail whipped the one out of GZ (it literally just clips in!) and stuck in Iron Maiden along with Micro SD card, connected the QR Reader using Cat 5 cable & coupler (cheers Kev 
), no need to even raise the playfield as you can access all you need through the coin door (look up & left). Set up IC & Home Team and it’s all working.
Iron Maiden is now using IC with no QR code reader installed or connected.

I might get an Insider Connect for AIQ. I kinda dig the idea of having a friend's list to compete against online etc. Also, seems the AIQ update has fixed the mind gem levelling issue in certain modes so best get on that
Scoring on Thor MB has also been massively boosted.
That's great because I tend to use it just to give me a better chance of collecting gems and kind of disregarding the Thor multiball shots.

To start 'Classic Mode' (there's no mention of Seawitch) you just hold the flipper buttons the same way you choose competition mode on other Sterns. This needs doing EVERY single time you play a game as it reverts to a Standard game if you don't, which is a bit of a pain., and I forgot almost every time.
I'll start by saying that I don't know the rules of Seawitch.
The Beatles are still playing in the background, you can choose which song but it has no bearing on scoring (just like Metallica).
The screen shows Beatles clips as well, with no relevance to what's going on on the playfield.
Obviously, the inserts don't match what's happening either so you don't really know what you're supposed to be shooting for, rather like a JJP! It's definitely nothing like as polished as the retro modes on BK:SOR.
It does have a ball save, which i found a bit strange.
I did manage to work out the rules myself after a couple of games, which are VERY basic and I had maxed everything out o the first ball of most games.
Overall a miss and not really worth more than a quick look.

Unfortunately I'm not able to download the Stern updates - never understood why, but must assume it's network provider specific - doesn't even work with a VPN. A forum member kindly downward and shared with the update for 1.15. But it sounds like I'm not missing much.
