How to stop pooling from chipping?

The IMDN I picked up is one from an early run with art around the the posts and so it has pooling around several of the main posts. Theres no signs of chipping yet but if there’s an easy solution to try and stop it happening I’d like to try.

I’m not confident enough to do the iron fix myself and I imagine it’s quite expensive to get someone to come do it, if I could even find someone that would come and do it anyway.

I remember reading with the GnRs that adding washers didn’t always work as it just pushed the pooling out to the edge of the washers, plus mine is already pooling not preventing it on a new playfield.

Is there anything I can do to help prevent it chipping or is it just either going to chip at some point or not and nothing will really help.

Also if anyone has any ideas for getting the auto plunge more consistent that’s not in the pinside thread already I’m all ears!

Washers may not be 100% but they will still help. Some photos of your game would help here.

The autoplunge is fickle on this game... First you really need to ensure that both prongs touch the ball at rest, that they are centered, and that they don't touch the rubber tip. Then play around with the ball guide at the top of the shooter lane...

I'll get some photos a bit later. The auto plunge I've adjusted the prongs and the ball guide, seems to work for 30ish games and then get inconsistent again. It's not terrible, just not 100%

washers are a complete waste of time. They will cover up the damage but not prevent it from spreading. You need the ironing kit:

If the manual plunge is perfect (ie: can make the loop every single time) then no need to adjust the guide anymore.
There is an inconsistency inherent with the auto plunge mech as it has a bit of play/slop in it.
One thing that made a major improvement for me after tinkering for months was a good clean & wax. I did change the coil just to give myself some adjustment headroom as the stock one is set to full power already but not sure this is necessary.
As long as the ball runs close to, but not clipping the upper right flipper. And the playfield & shooter lane are cleaned & waxed then it should be 99% good.
This is something that haunts a lot of IMDN owners, hope you get it sorted 👍

I’ve got the manual plunge working great. I have given it a good clean already but I’ll clean again and get some wax on there this time and see if that makes the auto more consistent, thanks.

My problem with the iron kit is I have nothing I can practice on and it can potentially do damage. I’m not even sure if removing the posts could cause a chip, making just leaving them and repairing if they do chip an option.

Trying to get some photos but its hard to get ones that show it well. I made the forum post away from the machine, now looking at the machine it looks like all the posts it affects already have washers under them anyway.

Several have pooling similar to this, this was just the best photo I could get, washers already underneath them.

you need to act on that because its going to crack at some point.

Its a power issue for sure I have 2 IMDN LE and premium both had a coil upgrade and the kick out works 99% of the time.

Take a video of the launch with your phone and watch it back frame by frame and see where it starts to wobble.

If it come out of the auto plunge true then it will be further up the lane.

Just one thing on the IMDN pooling.
I really don’t think you can compare say JJP pooling to Stern Pooling.
I have some pooling on my IMDN and has been fine so far.
Some JJPs chip as soon as you look at them..
Stern have a much better quality pooling 😂
