Updates!

Day 5 - most of the internal walls got plaster-boarded and holes were cut in the ceiling for the downlighters. Bonus pic I forgot of hallway after plumbers first visit.

Day 6 - house radiator was removed and plumbing moved and the big thing, the doorway between the house and garage was knocked through! The steel beam above the doorway and the new plasterboard in the hallway were both installed. Plasterboard on 3 walls of the garage also got finished off.

Day 7 - The building inspector came over for his 2nd visit, checked the steel beam and everything else and was happy. The internal wall at the front was constructed and plaster-boarded. Martin also turned up today with my Godzilla! Now a sensible, patient person may wait a couple more weeks for the room to be complete...I set it up temporarily in the front room, I can't see the TV from my side of the sofa anymore...but GODZILLA!

Day 8 - The ceiling and 1 wall were plastered and the front external wall got bricked up, the bricks are from the same manufacturer and same colour as the existing bricks and should be a closer match when they dry out and have weathered slightly...hopefully.

Day 9 - Plasterer came back to finish the rest of the room and the hallway. It's now got the weekend to dry before the builder is back for the next stage. It'll probably be dry by tomorrow in this heat! I'm really pleased with the progress so far, our builder thinks about another 7ish work days to finish it off.

A lot of the daily photos kind of looked the same last week even though progress was made every day so rather than share pics and daily details that probably only I’m interested in 😆 I’ll just sum up the week.

Last week was all the painting, fitting skirting, door architrave, radiators in new room and hall, flooring and the window.

On Monday this week the spark came to do the final fix. Sockets and lights went fine, we’ve gone for smart lights so you can individually turn them on and off if some are making annoying reflections when playing. But there was a problem with the light switch. There was a bit of miscommunication from the builder to the spark about the type of light switch. Apparently the smart light switch needs it’s own neutral wire, the builder didn’t know or forgot and the spark wired for a normal light switch. He figured out a way to do it but now we have a hole in the wall the builder needs to make good and the spark didn’t have the materials with him to do it so now we have to wait until he has spare time to come back. So close yet so far! The floor fitter also left a lot of marks on the skirting and the builder is going to come and repaint that. The only other thing left is the cill under the window outside to match the others as there’s a delay on the order but that’s just decorative, the room is weathertight and secure so that won’t stop us using the room.

We’re so close to it being finished but these last few jobs were unexpected and people have moved onto the next job so there’s a few days of nothing happening while we wait to be fitted in. Hopefully the next photos will have pins in!

Man I wish I went floor tiles
I was surprised how much they cut down on the echo in there, still some echo but have some plans if it's still audible when everything's in. If your flooring choice is the only regret you have that's not too bad, actual construction or electric mistakes would be worse.

Yeah I got some crap Wickes laminate flooring. It's already lifting in the doorway from the constant pin movements.

I'll dig it all out by the end of the year I'm sure. Issue then will be finding room for 6-7 pins.

could you do it in stages so you don't have to move them out completely?

Could you not just get some carpet tiles and put directly on top of the current flooring? It’s not like you have to glue them in place or anything.

The room was finished a couple of weeks ago but I was waiting for a couple of new arrivals before sharing photos because what's better than a new pin room? A new pin room full of pins! DP and IMDN are the latest to join the line up. I had DP on order for 11 months and they arrived within a day of each other, timing for the room couldn't have been better but now I have to decide how to split my time between them!

I'm really pleased with the whole room, it's wide enough to take the glass out without having to move anything except for TMNT at the end where I have to slide the cabinet to the side and I have just enough space between the machines to get down the sides as long as I'm not wearing anything that can scratch them. The smart lights work really well, just turn off whatever individual light is over the machine being played so no nasty reflections and set the halo colour to match the game. Only problem I have now is deciding what has to go when I want something new!

Stunning mate, can you come paint my walls?! 😅

Looks amazing! I spy with my little eye something beginning with 'M'...My old Turtles!

Are those canvas prints on the walls?
They’re 50mm acoustic panels. Not really needed but when the room was empty it was very echoey so I ordered some to place strategically but as the echo was fine once the room was full I just put them up in a line

It looks fantastic! Your builders have done a great job. Great line up of games too 😁
Very happy with the builder we went with in the end. I was concerned about ceiling height at the start because I didn’t want to end up with a room where I couldn’t lift the playfields. One builder that came round said to wire the lights he’d have to put in a false ceiling. The builder we used came round and just said, I’ll take the ceiling down, get the electrics done etc and then put a new ceiling up at the same height. He was also willing to put the floor joist widthways which others weren’t as it made leveling harder. Plus he never got annoyed (or at least showed he was annoyed lol) when we’d come in for a sneak peak during the day or we changed our minds about something.

It was a bit more expensive to get the builder to manage all the other trades instead of doing it ourselves but definitely worth it for us to have the least amount of hassle.
