Fun pinball machines

TAF makes me laugh and dance every time. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and gives me a few challenges to go for too.
I have to confess that AFM didn’t make me laugh as much. Epic game indeed and I had one here for ages but I didn’t miss it when she went. Same with Family Guy, sure it was funny but the sort of funny that I had my fill of after a while.

I loved AFM but haven’t missed it at all since selling it.
Come and try Metallica & Scared Stiff Gonzo, I think you’d enjoy both [emoji106]

If I haven’t got much time and I want a fix of a couple of fun games I tend to turn on either fishtales, whitewater or sopranos

Although non pinball friends seem to gravitate towards champion pub and junkyard.

My granddaughter always points to my Junkyard flyer on wall after playing pins and says why haven't I got it anymore and then my wife gives me the ‘look’ because she liked it too!

Fishy and creech are both fun. SS too. I'll always have a soft spot for BOP, unfortunately I can reach Billionaire club quite often now. Still no better build up to a wizard mode in my book.. To design a theme/shot layout like that is quite something.

Elvira, deadpool, tna, monster bash, batman 66, theatre of magic, stranger things, indy 500, embryon, flash gordon, HGT, afm, nine ball,

90's games if they are in good shape - way too many are a frustrating ****show

It's funny how few newer games are being mentioned.

@johnwhitfield . . . great shout with WCS

Yeah - you are right.

My family used to love the classic bally williams games. I think they did so much with the limited technology they had.

The MOST PLAYED PINBALL I ever owned by my family was A STERN STRIKER EXTREME. Just because it was football. The Cactus Canyon next to it and the Monster Bash did not get a look in that Christmas and new year..... Saying that - I was on the good machines.

NB - my family have been sectioned since.

In response to Gonzo's comment that its funny how newer games are not mentioned.

It's because of the target market. Back in the late 80s and early 1990s the games were designed to be intuitive to make them attractive to the casual player who would put a few quid into a machine and be able to have a decent game without having to read a rule book and make them want to come back for more. And these would be good for the operator as they would get most income. Lots of the flyers, particularly in the 1980s, talked about how much $$$$ the operator could make rather than what the game actually did. in the 1990s, the rulesets got more complex and the appeal of the games went down to the casual player and the operators. By late 90s Williams were struggling to sell to the operators and a good chunk of the last of the WCS95 games (CV, MB, CC) were sold at closeout sales to home collectors. P2K was an attempt to get back to the appeal to the casual player / operator but wasn;t at all poular with the collectors. In early 2000s a lot of talk on the rec.games.pinball groups was about which games had "deep rulesets" and the ones that had the deepest rulesets were always voted as the best games. Everybody hated RFM and SWEP1. So games are now often designed more to appeal to the collector rather than the arcade owner (just look at the flyers). Newer games are complex, no so much fun.

Good write up and I agree.

AFM was designed to take 50p from your pocket.... Jurassic Park was designed to take £7000+ from your bank account.

That being said JP will keep you busy for far longer than AFM will.

When my kids were around 4 and 5 we often had all their mates over (and the mums and dads for drinks). Typicallly there would be 20+ kids and the pinball room had 16 machines all set up. The kids would all gather around the RFM, JP and the HS2 meanwhile the STTNG and TOTAN with deeper rulesets would go un-played. And most popular with the girls was the JP. None of the kids liked TFTC - too scary!

Didn’t realised big buck hunter was so popular, never had the chance to play one, might have to pick one up and give it a whirl, ironman, avatar and Tron are all from around the same time and I love all 3 of those.

Deadpool is easily the most fun modern game/Stern, BM66 is a close 2nd.

^^^^^^ But with humour.
I guess to love BM66 you would need to be a fan of the series.
I grew up watching it, love all the characters.
Some people don’t like it, think it’s clunky.
I find you just have to aim to hit the shots.
The only shot I find tough is the right orbit, the rest are pretty easy 👍
If you want a tough- ish shot - try the right ramp on Stern Kiss! Sometime you can hit it all day, others it’s impossible FFS!

Funnily enough I find Deadpool quite clunky although it's fast becoming my favourite game. I think I want a bit of flow and ramps in my third machine and ideally a couple of ramps that feed the flippers.

It's looking increasingly like Elvira or MMr but I'm keeping my powder dry to see what JJP, Stern & CGC come up with next but they need to hurry up. 😉

I'd possibly trade JP for Elvira at some point in the future but doubt anyone would let one go.

Deadpool + BM66 are both George Gomez Clunks but have to say neither are what I would say are clunk fests - both superb games.

Think you should wait and see GnR at least 👍
I think the price will be outrageous though....

Oh I didn't know BM66 was Gomez . . . anyone who's made LOTR & Deadpool is a master in my eyes. 😎

I'm sure G&R will be pricey but BM66 & Elvira ain't cheap either. It's a ridiculously expensive hobby. I'll wait until October and see what they come up with but if it's delayed again I'll probably look elsewhere.

Edit: I've just watched a video of BM66 and it does look good.
