Guys can you please help out and supply some good quality close up pictures of your caster handle. I have the left side of one and missing the right side (unobtainium, lost the mould or whatever it was cast from) I am going to try and re create the right side out of something maybe even clay. But I know a few good at cad so maybe it can be resin printed extra extra thick. Who knows what’s possible if you put your mind to it. I need those detailed pics though first especially the right side tops and bottom.
Many thanks
Moose

I had a mate 3D scan mine. I’ll see if I can get the files if that’s of any help?

Can also send images if you pm me some contact details

im sure 3d printing is the answer but I made my guns n roses out of clay and painted it,it looked factory made and never had issues with it

Also happy to make mine available to create some new casts - have some made and black chromed - how cool would they look??

This guy has done some nice work (bit expensive and in the US) Example of Refinished Caster

Would anyone hazard a gUess or knows what metal the caster handle is made from?

I contacted chris in the usa incase he had any spares 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
He kindly replied but didnt lol
What the fook has happened to all these casters, there seems to be lots and lots of machines that they are miising from.

Nat that looks beautiful
Did you have any luck getting the scans from the F1 guys?

It was created from scratch - the 3D scan material hasn't arrived unfortunatley - they're all in furlough I understand.

I'm getting one printed - a forum member is kindly going to run one for me. Lets see what that looks like. If all good we can look at getting a mould made. 👍

I’ve ordered a nice 19mm lol
Your button looks nice also. Where’s the led wires??
What print type are you trying?
I have access to a resin one in oz 😆

Spent far too long creating a 3D model from scratch. Here are my results.

Trying to work out if it will print. Also very interested to hear from anyone with experience of creating casting mouldings from 3D designs.

awesome! Now this is showcasing 3D printing!!

have you had a look on shapeways? There’s loads of options on there inc metal stuff. Not cheap but makes access to very expensive printers possible

I picked up a 3D print of the model yesterday - thanks very much Paul for doing that. I must say it looks pretty good. There are a few adjustments I'd need to make to get it closer to a more exact match - but I'd say its very usable... a lot lighter than the orignal obviously - but not sure that would be a big deal once attached to a machine. Looks good in black, but could look fantastic if time spent smoothing it out, priming and painted. Happy to send it to you when I've finished the adjustment @Mooseman if you need one desperatly.

Nat yay well done. My fishy arrives tomorrow and it would be great to add a caster so yes please.
do you think it would be stronger if the print is back filled after printing with resin?

Lots of different tech to look at for a stronger print - as @myPinballs suggested Shapeways looks like they have lots of options - @Jazzbouche has used them for some small metal prints and was very impressed with the result.
