Dune, by Barrels of Fun

The music is spot on for the theme in terms of the musical score for the movies.

Obviously it's very niche but they're only selling limited numbers anyway.

Obviously read the Herbert books but I've seen the latest two films at the cinema and again since.

I'm pretty certain that anyone really into the films won't be put off by the music . . . They'll be encouraged.

Thys look good....real guuuud👍🏻

Initially, I couldn't stop seeing two bum 'oles (one of which eats and regurgitates the ball..), but seeing the footage it looks great.
Like the novel use of the action button for that mode and no doubt the shaker will be tied in with the toy which sends the vibrations in to the sand.
Wonder if they'll be a topper which during one mode blows sand in to your eyes, requiring you to play the mode blind........ah maybe not...:-)

There always seems to be a sacrificial lamb when new games go head to head, all being launched at the same time seems like they’re cannibalising sales 🤷‍♂️
Edit- I’ll reserve judgement until I get a chance to play one. Well intentioned allowing media to play it but a prerecorded gameplay video from Bowen would’ve been better imo

Such a tough call for them on whether to announce this and show off some gameplay. It's clearly not ready, so they're balancing the risk of putting people off because it's so not ready, versus grabbing some sales from people who are in regardless but who may have opted for a Kong or Potter if they'd not announced.

I am in no position to speak because I am a truly terrible pinball player and getting worse 😂

But could it be that the people playing it were all sh!t? Whoever played it in the BOF video was hitting the shots but everyone on this stream seemed to struggle.

Very irritating warning noise just before kick out too.

That said, it's an absolute stunner and I love the move score playing in the background and excellent use of lighting with outstanding mechs.

They definitely weren’t good, most of the drains were “old man drains” from not handling the scoop feed correctly.

That said it did look a bit clunky, took me back to the UXM stream with JD and pals wearing fancy dress and just beefing for a whole hour 😬

Yeah, that's true, they weren't great on that stream and UXM shot absolutely brilliantly in real life.

I wondered if the folks on the Dune stream were pinball folk or generic gaming youtubers? To be honest, I wasn't really watching carefully enough to see if there were any flipper skills on show. The upper ramp should be makable though because it's huge.

Doug (CoolToy) is a good tournament player but I get the impression that the footage wasn’t him- in the comments he mentions enjoying the gameplay so possibly not representative of what the game will play like you’d hope

Which UXM shot brilliantly in real life, please tell me where it is because I want to play it 😂

UXM shoots great imo. Almost every shot returns directly to a flipper so you can combo loads. It’s less friendly than other moderns if you miss a shot but it has to be otherwise you’d never drain with all the safe returns, especially on a pro without the hands.

Mostly people aren’t happy with the code progress but love how it shoots.

Funnily enough, both of the ones I had here, maybe the Pro is now it Retroids?

All the shots are where they should be on that game, it's just a huge shame the theme didn't grab me which is why I went for Bond instead. UXM definitely has better shots than Bond though.

I should say that I didn't suffer with the launcher issues because they came with the kits.

Every one I’ve played has one or more different issues which kill the flow even if you do make the shots - choose from plunge / autoplunge issues, balls falling off the wireform from the shot to the left of the Sentinel, killer left flipper hop, inconsistent drops from the Cerebro lock which sometimes trap and sometimes don’t, exit from the Danger Room going directly to the right outlane etc etc.

Just seems extremely sensitive to setup, and the sheer number of shots means it is beef city unless you are super accurate on everything out of the gate

I think that’s true but if you have it at home you can tweak all those things. Not every game is for everyone though so it might just be it clicks with me. Great to have plenty of choice to suit everyone and still new stuff coming out all the time. That’s my best segue back to Dune….

Yup definitely. Dune has a lot of potential and certainly looks great on the eye, BOF really are good at crafting the “world under glass”

Sorry to hear that mate.

To be honest, when I did my first video somebody pointed out that something wasn't quite right in multiball and the left flipper was playing up but I hadn't noticed.

I found the shots really makable and I am far from a great player, the shots in Bond are harder imo and it had really good flow. Unfortunately the theme does does nothing for me and I even tried watching the Xmen films to help 😂.

As for the shots on Dune, I just want to see someone playing the game, making the shots and the ball staying active for a while. I don't doubt they'll sort the code, licence, sound, callouts and footage. Because if the shots worked, it would be pretty much a perfect theme for me and certainly more than Harry Potter which is something I watched with the kids rather than something which is my choice.

I would have considered an Evid Dead but they're all sold out anyway which leaves Dune, Kong & Potter. I'm not sure about Kong really, I can't fault it at all but I didn't fall in love with it when I saw it so it might be between Dune & Potter. That said, I might change my mind when I play Kong.

There are some cracking games though and if the TOTAN remake gets done soon that could top the lot for me.

hmm can't decide whether to get this or not, I love the Dune movies but wasn't a big fan of Barrels of Fun's last effort Labryinth. I already have Evil Dead, King Kong, Medieval Madness and Harry Potter coming and thats before anything else gets announced so i guess i might be best just sitting this one out.

Wow, I think you need to give your wallet a rest 😂

Watching this latest video, this is shaping up to be a really immersive game.

Bowen and Eric will make sure the rules shine.
