Concert/gig attending thread.....

“Rock n Roll”. Grandad!

For my daughter it’s all about the horror of drill/trap. However, there is hope. Turns out that she’s also into novelty Pirate Metal provided there are giant pink inflatable dicks being waved by the crowd.

Managed to get her to go to the Struts with me last month and we’ve got the Pretty Reckless, shinedown, volbeat, dropkick murphys and rise against coming up. I’m doing my best to expand her musical horizons.

I did draw the line in taking her to see someone called “Digger D”. From the name alone it’s got to be utter crap.

Pretty Reckless on tour in the UK? Wouldn't mind seeing them live. If you haven't already check out Halestorm and Dorothy - seriously good female fronted rock bands doing a good job of keeping the spirit alive

I still struggle with realising the rock chick from the Pretty Reckless is the kid from the grinch. 😱. Guess we all grow up.

Seconded !
I can particularly recommend the Barrowlands one.
1. Because its possibly the best venue on the planet
2. Because the Bar Stool Preachers are playing too - and they are pretty good too

Yep, TBH I'd never heard of her before the pretty reckless, but my wife informs me she was famous for a show called Gossip Girl.

Another rabbit hole of mine this week is discovering The Warning, they opened for the Foo Fighters recently

I have expanded into Hurdy-Gurdy progressive metal to get my fill of strong and epic female vocalists.
Cellar Darling are playing a London gig in October. I am hoping it doesn’t clash with another work event.

Well - I am playing TribFest nr York on Sunday if anyone is at that.
My next 'going to' show is a week friday when my pals Oceon Colour Scene play a local one!
Haven't seen OCS play in years, remember seeing them at the Brixton Academy back in 2000, they on tour at the moment?

Yes they are. Not seen Mr Craddock for 5 years. Known him since i was 14. Nice guy.....
First gig was OCS in Blackpool with a bus load of mates from school (one of which ended up being my wife :D some years later) saw them many times in the late 90s.

Yeah. They are a great band. I used to play with Steve in my younger years and then guitar teched for him.

Saw him with Weller. Very proud.

We came from the same area. Solihull not Moseley.

So anyone off to Download now the line up has been officially announced?

Not entirely convinced I need six hours of Metallica but there’s some decent stuff lower down. Never seen Pendulum, they stand out from a lot of the other bands there.

Download has never appealed to me, it's the same old stuff.
The only bands on there I'm a fan of are Brutus and Soen

I did 20 years of avoiding big gigs. Come round full circle again. 😃. I’m going through a real phase of mainstream metal stuff. I love the utter lack of irony.

Was hoping While She Sleeps would be on the bill but looks like I might have to force myself to go to Alexander Palace to see them. Possibly the worst venue in the U.K. and probably way to big god them.

Was looking through my old gigs the other day. Did Ozzfest in 1998. £20 for a full days festival!

A friend of mine provides the stage sound and lighting for Download.

Never been!! 😆

We booked the early bird tickets as Ethan really wanted to go again. Happy with Metallica and Slipknot as headliners, but disappointed with the rest of the line-up at the moment. Hopefully some more band to be announced soon.

A friend and I are heading to Download this year. Metallica, Slipknot and Disturbed sell it for me straight away :)

I have been to Download before and had a great time. Although, Rock am Ring at the Nurburgring is insane and IMO can't be topped.

Used to do loads of festivals Rock am Ring being the best for Metal and Glasto for general atmosphere before it got over commercialised and people going cause it was cool over the music.

I’m a light sleeper so festivals are a no go these days, unless an exceptional lineup happened

I do fancy the one day mega festival Sic New World in Vegas though

Speaking of big gigs, I've had to grin and bear it as we're going to see Porcupine Tree at Wembley Arena on Friday, used to be a huge fan and saw them lots before they went on indefinite hiatus so had to jump at the chance to see them again after 10+ years.

Arenas just do nothing for me, we saw Tool earlier in the year in Birmingham and it was a bit meh. The small gig we went to at the Concorde 2 in Brighton the following day was much better with regards to the atmosphere, performance and energy.

It'll be nice to see PT with a bigger production and it's nice to sit down sometimes 😄

Tool gig was great as ever, atmosphere was killed by having to sit :(

Some decent bands at Download that I would have like to see like Bloodywood, Behemoth, GWar, Distillers and Distrubed as not seen them before, but I think its the same weekend that Play Glasgow is planned for.

Now that is quite the line up.

SOAD, Mr Bungle and Soulfly, would love to catch that

Next gig for me is I think the annual SLF St Patricks Barrowlands show.
I also have Discharge the month after and The Bar Stool Preachers the month after.

(Though I would like to think something else will appear between now and the 129 days until St. Pats.. not that im counting :) )
