Blues Brothers… but by HomePin

Yeah, basically. Booth babes in french maids costume only sell your game if your entire audience is male and horny.

My main thought, looking at those women, is “boy, they look bored” and “I wonder if these were students hoping to make a quick buck.” Having worked at a PR agency where me, and other staffers, got wheeled out to look nice in the hope of scoring business with some [insert derogatory description of your choice] of a male tech client who fancied his chances, my main reaction is “yuck.” Because, yes, this is how attractive women feel doing these jobs - utter contempt for the men. It’s especially cringe when they try flirting (badly) and you have to pretend to be sweet, girly, kind and accommodating to them

Also, it tells me nothing about the pin.

From a marketing point of view, it looks like @Homepin explicitly wants to appeal to straight male players. There’s no reason to focus exclusively on this demographic, especially as a boutique company, when he could simply sell the pin based on - well - the Blues Brothers theme and the gameplay.

It’s worth mentioning no one has complained about the JJP ads that feature beautiful women playing pinball. This is because there are, in fact, attractive young women who play pinball. It’s the same reason most women like Lara Croft as a video game character. She’s an attractive, capable woman wearing practical clothing who explores tombs.
FFS please just rein in the off-topic ******** about sexism etc, this is just a pinball forum. i've been away 7 years and it has changed a LOT.

i was told to come and read this car crash of a thread when i asked a mate about Spinal Tap and he told me about Mike and the other games, but after reding all this lot i just feel like jumping off a cliff. I have lived in Taiwan for 18 months (in the 90s) and can confirm what Mike says, this is just how they sometimes market stuff over there. it's not his fault. and as Tucks said (i paraphrase) it's still pretty normal for most blokes to fancy women. and also, someone said "they're in Taiwan so i expect nobody is being well-paid" - well that is total ******** for a start, they get paid the same or more as people in the UK. Taiwan is an advanced civilised democracy, not some ****ing cave full of idiot sexist troglodytes. the Taiwanese people and lovely kind genuine curious people with their own culture, and it is a male-dominated society, yes, but not so far as Japan with all its weird rape-based schoolgirl porno etc......... i digress.

@Homepin where in the sweet potato that is Formosa are you based? oh and where in Oz are you from? (i also lived 18 months in Oz in the 90s, mostly in Queensland).

anyway now i am off to go and look for what i actually wanted to read about - the Tap. Mike, i wish you well, the hobby definitely needs more manufacturers than just Stern or even just Stern+JJP ..... but i do fear for the little guys who just won't be able to compete imo. the hobby is in trouble as the old farts like me who remember playing pins in their heyday of 80s and 90s are dying off, and the younger breed of wealthy 20- and 30-somethings lucky enough to have pins have been brought up to think that the be all and end all of pinball was the latest shiny Stern for ten thousand pounds. It isn't, by the way - the golden best age was the one that produced Creech, and Twiglet Zone and Medieval Madness.... and Rollergames  - and no more than two grand for any of them.

i've rambled on and done exactly what i accused you of, and gone off-topic, so i apologise.

edit: btw i am not the intended market either as games without ramps or toys are not pinball to me; and i'm not a Homepin apologist either, i totally agree with what Stormy said above, that Mike has to be a bit less defensive and work on those communication skills. you'll make no friends calling us all trolls (i AM a troll btw, i enjoy it, but not everyone here is, we're all just pinheads). to those moaning about Blues Brothers theme being wasted on a stripped down game i say surely another BB could also be made in the future? they remade GZ and JP and GNR to name but 3. oh, and i searched but cannot find a Spinal Tap thread here anywhere ..... someone link me please?Rollergames bum.JPG

Just looking on their facebook page and its saying that they have 3 fully licensed songs (Peter Gunn theme, Shake a Teail Feather and ?) from the soundtrack but sounds like no movie rights so possibly no call outs from the film, but it is open source so you can add your own. ;)

Quoting Euro4350 door to door delivery to most of Europe which is about £3670+VAT

Anyone tempted?

World's first? Doesn't P3 have open source software?
Making games on P3 uses Unity for the game engine to display, unity's not open sourced but I don't think there are any open sourced P3 games.

There probably are demos in their Dev Kit which uses Unity for people to learn to make their own but it's never been sold as a machine where people share games or software.

This game is closed source really, says so on the flyer, open source to a strict moderated forum though.

It is 100% open source software. You can download the latest version right now on Github and use it any way you like. You can modify Blues Brothers code to use in a BBros machine OR your own home brew - what ever you want, it is totally free and absolutely open source with ZERO restrictions.

The moderation comes about if you wish to share your modified code with other owners of Homepin machines. We MUST check it before distributing to other owners to protect them from malicious actors.

I hope this clarifies things.

Got a link to the Github source?

In terms of the moderation is there any issues with your moderators moderating and approving/releasing code for others to use that includes copyrighted materials that you dont have the Licence for?

That code looks like the stuff Dick Hammil's done for the old bally & Stern games? Interesting to see what hardware BluesBrothers has in it?

I see, yes clarified. I am just reading into the flyer which just looked like it was open to those in the forum.

Actually just did what Im constantly tell people I work with to do and just googled it.

Ah I see. I was on here the other day as it was recommended to use a board for older games and Gorgar. >Demon23 , can't remember what they were.

Im going to have a stab in the dark and say its possibly a derivative of the old Bally board if its using this arduino system as it plugs into the old Stern/Bally boards via the diagnostics port and controls the MPU directly based on what I have read so far.

Or possibly the Altek replacement board, why make something when there is an off the shelf part ready to go?

Yes it bypasses the original mpu and uses the I/o which is mainly via the pia chips - I’ve asked duck to do an esp32s version but his code isn’t that portable as it’s writing directly to the arduino pins. He said he’s tried it but it didn’t work. Fir me esp32s is the way to go as you get inbuilt wifi and dual processors etc

Can’t wait , got my order in 🤩
The dream theme since all this madness began and love the idea of an open source code , especially with a movie like the BB so many iconic songs and call outs.
Good luck with this one Mike and team I hope it’s a great success for you guys.
With your track record it won't even make it out of the box.

At least someone has pulled the trigger...

I've tried so hard to like it, probably top of my dream themes but I can't find anything I like about it apart from its a knock off Stern Stars.

It’s the blues brothers … that’s enough for me 🫡
I have been studying the layout looks cool jump ramp some thing with a captive ball lock have no idea what stern stars is like but this looks cool . I had a chat with Mike who is really excited about this and to be fair it rubbed off on me . As I very honestly said to him I am not expecting this to be like a stern or a JJP but it’s a pinball and it’s blues brothers and it’s fully customisable and it’s a brilliant price , I just don’t see any downsides.
Choosing the call outs and choosing the music sounds so awesome. The game could never be fully licensed half the cast are dead and the music alone would make the license impossible.. so if blues brothers is your dream theme like it has been for me for over 20 years this is it .

One other thing before I board this plane …
I just had a lightboard delivered to my hotel from Marco for a Beatles I just sold the game had less than 40 plays on it and when the new owner got it one of the LED was out $300 later as they offer 60 days on boards .. how gash is that!!!
Tobins mate mark had a thunderbirds that the Mole board had gone and he asked me to message home pin as my BB was coming over.
They immediately messaged back built a new board and shipped it out free of charge immediately… I think he had the game for around five years , how incredible is that for customer service

Homepin have mentioned before their boards have a lifetime warranty.

I think the 60 days warranty is a standard American thing, with you saying you got it from Marco.
