Could anybody recommend a black cabinet paint ? I'm sure there is a favoured product to paint the cabinet after I've filled a few dents and dings?

Satin Black is the type preferred i believe - it's the usual paint that i would use to paint the inside of a cab. If it's the outside of the cab then it may require something glossy tho....

Ive been looking at 2 part satin black and high build primer on ebay to use with a spray gun so you dont have to buy umpteen cans

If it's just small touch ups, I tried PeteB's recommendation in his thread on restoring a Hook and used a tube of Reeve's Acrylic Mars Black - it blended in with the black on my Time Machine very well.

Seconded, I used one of the small (must be) foam rollers and trays can pickup at £1 shops with a tub of the stuff sold at the Range. I roller-ed the inside of my Hook Cab looks sweet.

I have used the simoniz satin matt too. It is much easier to handle than gloss paint.
