Echoing many here, BSD and TWD all the way. They are both hard as nails though, beware. BSD is particularly brutal. Can't hurt if you've a bunch of other machines you can retreat to / hide behind, though.

BSD is definitely atmospheric. Might be putting mine up for sale soon, but not sure I would recommend it to someone new to pinball - it was only my second pin and I found it frustrating for quite a while.

Brilliant response to the post, so thanks to all for your inputs. It made for some interesting reading and a few machines in there I hadn't even heard considered. I have a much better idea of what to keep an eye out for now then.
