Hi All,

I know this isn't pinball, but they share their innards with EM pinballs, so thought I'd post here. Before I got into pinball I had a collection of 6 or 7 nice Bally EM slot machines, dating between 1969 and 1982. They were kind of cool to fix up and restore, but they gradually left as pinball needed the space.

I've now decided that I'm only going to have 2 pins at a time, so I'm looking to get my hands on a Bally EM slot machine again. Don't mind a project. Anyone got anything hiding away?

Mark

Hi @David Stephens

Thanks for the information, I'll keep it in mind, price is good for sure.

I'll go into nerd mode and mention that what you have there is model 1044 "Gold Rush" which dates from 1975. Oddly though, it has the belly glass from a model 1069-1 "Texas Twin" which dates from the same year. I've attached pictures of both in case you are interested. I once had a full Texas Twin which I drove over to Holland to collect. Sold it a few years later to someone that it then shipped to the US and switched the Swedish backglass for an English one. Anyone else got anything?

Have you thought about Bally em pinballs? I’ve sorted a few of these this year and are a good change from regular solid state pins.

A friend of mine has what I think is a county fair? smashed reel glass! He may sell it, in Scotland mind!

I've not heard of a County Fair before (and Google doesn't help). Lots of distributors put different glasses in older machines, fiddled around with the payouts (and sometimes added change machines etc) and so quite a few are kind hybrid machines. I'd be interested in a pic though if you can get one. Reel glasses are a pain to source, they often need remaking from scratch unless you strike lucky.

I've seen your FB posts, must admit I've been tempted but space is the killer. With just 2 pins, we can actually move around in this room again. Might have a think about it though next time I switch out one of the 2 I've got here at the moment....

It might have been country fair? sure it had horse racing or something in the belly glass, no pictures I'm afraid

Yes, I've seen that one. It's an exampls of one of those distributor converted machines and is a little butchered. A lot of machines that saw time in UK arcades (like this one and the other Gold Award machine which isn't converted) had very low jackpots to fall in line with the laws of the time. So instead of having those big coin hoppers with 200,300,400 coin jackpots they just have the small door mounted payout tubes. I'm after one with a "proper hopper". I did find a proper Texas Twin in Germany, but it's kinda (very) expensive and then I still need to get it over here.

There is a "Rio" on Ebay too which is another conversion where the coin changer has been added and the jackpot dropped down to 20p even though that machine actually does have a hopper.

Probably a conversion of some kind then, there were a lot of them by various distributors / operators in the UK and elsewhere. There is precious little documentation on the machines that Bally did themselves, let alone the conversions and local versions. I had one that was a conversion of an EM machine to an SS machine by a company in Denmark. NIever did manage to get it working properly, even after I managed to track down and get the boards fixed by one of the people in Denmark who actually used to work for the company back in the 1980s. It was one of these..

What's the chance on picking up a Gold Rush belly glass!! Also mine is 300 pay out and 1000 attendant pay out. I would assume this has come from a Casino?

I'd suggest putting a search in on ebay.com (as opposed to .co.uk). Unlikely, but saying that there is a Gold Rush reel glass up at the moment,,,,,

Probably did come from a casino. If I was going to make a wild guess I'd say your machine *might* have come from Australia, since the Texas Twin and the Gold Rush were both exported there direct from Chicago. If there is a model number or supplier plaque somewhere on the machine that might narrow it down.

To be honest the only reason I'm not jumping all over your machine is that I'd like to find a machine with the more traditional "fruit" symbols, but that said yours is a nice example. I'll see what else shows up but might well be in touch !

May have something that would most certainly be a project... let me take a look... will certainly be cheap just to clear some space :)
