So a little update on Tilt

The Arcade has been sold and it's currently going through with an estimated completion of the end of February

I am likely to forfeit my lease for the upstairs unit and go back to only the ground floor and basement which means going down to maybe 15 machines

I then have to fight the council for over charging me and get my money back

I have briefly spoken to the new landlord and he has already indicated increasing my rent in September. Running costs are rocketing and with the ongoing living crisis which means trade has declined 35% overall since the living crisis started two years ago. A price increase will price us out of this unit.

So its likely we'll close mid-september.

And to be frankly honest with COVID and the Living Crisis hospitality has been a dumpster fire and bars and restaurants have been going out of business everywhere... It gets harder and harder to survive and this stripped the majority of the joy I had running this business, it gets harder and harder to find good staff and it all falls on me its knocked my mental health a lot recently and i think a change will be best for me :)

Sorry to hear it's had it's toll on you Kirk. Hope things somehow work out. Will be tremendously sad to lose another great tournament venue. Your place is probably the closest large and permanent fixture for a huge number of us Northern (and Midland) bunch. The Super Series have been terrific, much like the events at Electric Circus in previous years.

Sorry to read this Kirk. It’s tough running any business but hospitality in all its forms seems to be virtually impossible to succeed in at the moment.
Good luck with whatever your future ventures end up being

Giving this a little bump :)

And a little updated on Tilt - The sale has fallen through and found out even if they agree a sale it can't happen until after the Council Board vote the sale through in April so unlikely I'll know anything about Tilt until May now

I do intended to forfeit my lease for upstairs at end of March.

Also my accountants now engaged the council threatening legal action to try get them moving after 2.5 years of them ignoring me and trying to sell the building to avoid paying previous tenants back... We have given them 14 days to reply before instructing the lawyer to approach previous tenants to tackle the council together.

Hope things get sorted for you Kirk, all sounds a bit of a nightmare. But just wanted to say that a lot of us love Tilt and it will be a sad day if you do have to close down.

Any update on how your getting on against the council mate @Tilt_Birmingham

Pity a few of us will be away in Belgium that weekend for the European Circuit Series finals... :( it'll give everyone else a chance I guess... 😜

This is all a real bummer to hear.

I run a marketing agency so if anything I can do to help... don't hessitate to ask. I am fairly sure I could help get you a bit more visible on Google for starters and that may help get a few more folks through the door, sell more pints and coffee etc.

I had a quick look and if I search for something like "craft beer birmingham" which it seems a good number of folks do each month (approx 1000) then you are not on the first page of Google - you have such a cool and unique proposition (craft beer + pinball) that it should be easy to grab people's attention. Then there is the coffee etc (2500 people per month search for "best coffee birmingham"). Then, of course pinball, way less folks looking, but I figure the actual audience for that, people like us ultimately, would be interesting to promote some nights to noobies, get folks to try the hobby (sport?).

Obviously, pro bono, we are stacked out so not looking to bill you and add to the pain!

I have had the flu so not been in the office to do my lunchtime pinball and coffee but will be about tonight + will likely be in tomorrow lunch - totally 100% happy to help however I can so pick my brain anytime.

Marcus

Hopefully we can break 30 players :)

The tournament will be the last day we'll have upstairs the following day we'll be removing the pinballs upstairs and having a reshuffle and going down to 14/15 machines over the ground floor and basement.

How do you decide what goes? It feels almost like having to cull your own children! 😅

I Plan on going, and think I'm number 20. Will be getting there just before 11, due to train times. Shame to see you might have to sell some of your games.

Just giving this a bump

Only 20 players atm - Only two weeks away hoping we can at least get 30 players to make it worth everyone making the trip

Had a good time there today. Have checked train times, and bus times. Unfortunately I will have to drop out. Due to the best time I can get there being just after 12 noon. Hope the event goes well.
