Accepting Large Sums of Cash

£50 really isn’t anything now 😢. It would probably get you about 7 or 8 drinks in a pub, so a small round. The mindset of handing over a £50 note compared to slapping it on a card is huge though. I spend far less when I use cash.

Caveat to the drinks cost above. It probably doesn’t help that the bars near me are full of millennials. And don’t get me started on the ****ing use of plant pots for lampshades and classic books to hold menus.

Cash is a pain. Some buyers think they are more likely to get a discount if they offer cash but as a seller it’s a pain to deal with.

Trying to get to a bank to deposit it is a challenge if you dont work near one. I used to just use it as a general float but over the last year that’s simply not happened. Finally had a hunt round the house last summer and found a staggering amount in loose change that had built up over the years.

I’ve never had a problem paying large amounts of cash in but always get challenged when taking it out. My standard reply to “what’s it for” is always “coke and hookers”. It’s **** all to do with my bank what I choose to spend my money on. They aren’t my dad.
I used to do similar.
If they asked me where the cash was from when paying it in I would say something along the lines of ‘my wife has left me and I have sold all her sex toys.’
Or if they asked why I was withdrawing such a large amount I would say ‘my wife is a sexual deviant and it costs a fortune to buy the equipment that she requires.’

Watching them squirm in embarrassment was fun.

That would make interesting reading for the NCA if the bank fills out the SAR’s form🤣
