Was so blessed to be a part of that scene from 88-93, an amazing time

T4ravelled all the way down to hammersmith palais to see them twice then saw them again on Channel 4s The TUBE in the days of Paula Yates & Jools Holland. Oh those were the days

A modern masterpiece I can't believe that was '94. As live performances go no one could touch them in their day.

I had stopped buying vinyl until a few years back when I went to buy a beatles album on CD. £15 says I - crazy price, I still have my turntable, I will just pick up an old vinyl copy.
(forget which album it was). On playing it I realised why I like vinyl. And decided I needed all of the Ramones and Motorhead albums on vinyl.
On reflection the £15 CD would have been cheaper

Ramones live at the Rainbow is a modern masterpiece. 4 sides of 2-3 min sweet bubblegum rock. I'd be straight in for a JJP Ramones pin...

Buying a lot of Greatest Hits albums for my LP playing jukebox

One of the few good things about having a workshop nr Brum city centre is I have 3 good record shops close. One I pass on the drive home and my van somehow pulls over!!!!!

Yeah, well we know in the 60s/70s vinyl was not treasured like it is today.
A customer of mine bought me an old Led Zeppelin II album, and it was lovely - except for the back of it that had had thousands of joints rolled on it and maybe some cocaine cut!

Trying to find a mono Rubber Soul that is half decent.

Record fair on locally this sunday so I will have a hunt around.

I love the mono mixes but do not own any vinyl of them - I have stereo Beatles records and it doesnt warrant me gettng the stereo box.

I listen to a pretty broad spectrum of stuff. (I recall a buy at a car boot not being able to get his head around it when I bought 2 albums from him. Cyndi Laupers True Colours and Metallicas Justice album. "But.. but.. "

I recall reading somewhere the first few beatles albums were original intend to be mono and the stereo version were an afterthought. Stereo wasnt a big thing when the first few were released which is why there were not many made. (The pressing plant was also in the process of switching labels from the black and gold to the black and yellow ones - which is why the black and gold ones are so rare)
Think there are also 2 versions of the black and gold ones - some have the wrong credits on there or something.

What happened was the Beatles stayed around for the mono mix. The stereo mix was done later.
The issues on vinyl with stereo mix is when the bass and low frequencies are panned left or right. Bass should be mixed in the middle when cut onto vinyl. Guitars/keys/voice etc can be panned where they like.
You also have to remember back in these days - most beatles albums got played on old dansette style record players. Which are mainly mono. Stereo was only for the posh with lots of money.

yes first pressing credited “dick james music” to 4 tracks instead of to “northern songs” it was corrected promptly - so yes two versions of the black n gold in both mono and stereo.

Bought my first LP in a year or two today, Sleaford Mods UK Grim.

I’ve got pretty much all their output on vinyl. There are an amazing live act although I’m a bit apprehensive on how they’ll sound at Ally Pally I’m December. That’s a pretty cavernous venue for a chap on his pc and an old fella shouting.

+1 for Beatles in mono. My friend lent me his original mono LP and it sounded so alive compared to the later stereo reissues. Some tracks were different too with extra vocals and little changes. I found it incredible that there was still a considerably wide sound field and clear instrument separation from a mono track. Pet Sounds is wonderful in mono too.

I must pick up a mono cartridge one day.
