Wanted WPC MPU or Rotten Dog Replacement MPU089

Go on... why?

(Sorry, I can't resist not doing as I'm told)

Let me guess. You were just setting this back up after your return from NLP and tripped over the dog, which caused you to lose your steely grip on a fresh pint of beer retrieved only moments earlier from the fridge that then sailed across the living room striking the MPU with US air-strike accuracy because the backbox door was open?

No - It's the fact that i was removing the ram to replace with a socket for a wonderful Dr Pinball magic Ram :), and whilst my soldering skills are pretty good, at 250C the paper-like bus traces are indeed paper-like.

It's installed, but no longer boots :( U19 Watchdog.... Means I'll have to sit there for ages buzzing out every address line - which whilst I can and will do, is a ballache..... and stops me from playing :(

Oh, mate... I feel your pain

Couple of weeks ago I fixed the MPU from GOLD BALL but a week later it's back to having a constantly on LED and for the life of me I can't find what the f*** is wrong with it. I've buzzed out every single track on the board (having felt pretty smug about spotting and fixing a broken track that runs under the SRAM chip) but still no joy. I've now got a repair kit so will start swapping components one-by-one in the reset circuit to track down the duff component. So irksome!

I did manage to repair another corrosion damaged MPU over the weekend, so all is not lost, but it looks terrible as I was having trouble with my new Precision Gold A55KJ Soldering Station that seems to be a recommended favourite of several members. I couldn't find the high-quality fine solder I've know I've got somewhere so resorted to using some standard stuff, but it just wasn't melting or flowing properly. Going to take a while to get used to the new iron. It gets hot enough (and quick) but just doesn't seem to have the reservoir of heat that my fixed-temp 25W Weller iron does. The extra fine tip is great for getting under turned-pin chip sockets for soldering the topside connections though.
