Hi all,
i'm trying to install a tiger saw mod onto my theatre of magic. The guide i'm following recommends picking up my 12v from the 12v unregulated test point. That seems a little bit unreliable to me so i'm wondering whether i can pick up a +12v from any of the connectors on the power driver board.
Alternatively can anyone let me know what the unregulated 12v is actually used for?
cheers
Rich

just go with the instructions, i run mods all the time off of the test points. use tp 5 ground for the other side and not the ground braid, if you are worried use a 1 amp in line fuse for the unregulated 12 v. insulated crocodile clip for attachment. that way if it comes off and touches something with a bit of oomph, it won't blow the mod up. also you will need to add a stobing led near the saw blade, otherwise its hard to see the blade moving.

I've seen several occurrences of led lighting strips failing, that are connected to the 12v unregulated. Nominally this is about 15v, I.e 25% over voltage. If the LEDs are designed to work at maximum brightness at 12v then their life will be significantly reduced at 15v.

12v digital is available at tp3 / j114 pins 1&2 but there's only 3/4 a available total.

Thanks for the opinions guys.
Andy, I'm using the 12v to power a motor for a tiger saw. Running it through an emi board and then the transistor on the power driver board.
I'm guessing unregulated 12v is the one to use. Or should I be going for the regulated 12v?

17v is quite normal. Unregulated means that the voltage is not fixed to a specified amount. When the voltage is used on say the dmd driver board it is brought down locally to 12v.
