It's a reed/magnet combo device, finely balanced I think. I've seen posts on pinside describing the process of replacing the faulty reed but I would rather not attempt that!

edit: its an odd one has the reed and magnet in the same plastic package. So, other option is to break it open and replace the reed.

I know a guy in the states who is remaking these for wms games. Essential items that are much needed for many games

I tried the Sega one, which I also happened to have around - It doesn't seem to work inside the game, though it could detect a ball right on top of it. Not sure what might be going on there.
