I was just wandering why there is so much haterid for the popeye pinball? Not played it myself but ive noticed alot on here and pinside thats loads seem to diss it

F**k yeah ...I ,love the spinach guzzling planet saving freak ! Stupidest thing I ever did was move on my minty Popeye :der: Couldn't sell it for £500 back in 2010 ....thats how bad the reputation of Popeye is !!! Ended up being the first prize at the South Coast Slam raffle, which caused much hilarity and cheap gags about booby prize etc ...:rolleyez:

A lot of the bad rap comes from people who have little time on it, or worse haven't even played it but just follow the same old line about the upper playfield obscuring shots etc etc ....for the record it doesn't 👅

People also seem to take issue with the whole animal saving environmental theme ....yes its a bit odd but hey !

The actual playfield as 'Ship' is really well integrated with some great artwork and neat touches, the elevator up to the top deck, the clear upper window which everyone seems to hate, the left animal rescue ramp - very unique .

The ruleset is decent, but you need to know what the heck is going on and thats where it falls down outside of home environment ...it really is a game you need to spend time with. Its not very intuitive and unfortunately the DMD and sound callouts don't always indicate as clearly as perhaps they should what is happening.

Its challenging to get to the Wizard mode and resecue Olive, but its achieveable. The upper playfield is actually pretty damn cool once you get used to it - yes it is hard to find Swee'pea, yoiu need to hit the correct ramp entrance to navigate around the DMD displayed map ,but thankfully contrary to popular myth you don't have to find SP to qualify the Wizard mode.

I think the game came out at a time of a LOT of really great games that were perhaps more instantly accessible in the arcade environment.

I would have one back in the shack sooner than I would have a bunch of other DMDs that have passed through.

Anyway ....everyone keep hating it yeah, so the prices stay reasonable and I can get another one

Not sure tbh mate. Looks alright to me. I was gonna trade my bighurt for one but the other guy backed outta the deal. One mans turd is another mans jewel. Although a lot of folk really do slate this game so maybe there's some truth to it.
