Hi all,

I've contacted a neon sign company in the UK and i've submitted 3 design idea's.

Looking for some opinions on which one to go for.

One of the people on this forum is a custom neon sign maker who several people have used - apparently high quality and good value, so it might be worth getting a quote/advice from them as well as your original supplier.
Derbyshire Neon (Facebook link)

Link to thread discussing suppliers.
Link to thread with some examples.

In answer to your original question, personally, of the 3 options, I think the middle one is more effective as the others are a bit over-complicated/messy. Having said that (and this is just my opinion), the middle one is a design seen fairly often, so if you are going to pay for a custom sign, maybe another design, but keeping it quite simple?

Awesome thanks!

Yeah, I think the company you are planning on using only does LED neon.

Although they look very cool, I would personally go with good old fashion neon, as I think they look better when lit up.

I would go with Number 2.

Derbyshire neon is the place to go. Run by a couple on here - both pinball fans too.

Most neon advertised online is LED fake neon.

It is rubbish compared to the real thing.

I have a large Play pinball here sign (real Neon) in the loft bought from Pinball heaven several years ago but stored in the loft the last few years.
I can pull it out if interested however it would probably collection only due to the nature of the beast.

@s000m bite his hand off mate!

Hi all,

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately colywobbles is too far for me. Good deal for someone else no doubt.

Went with the popular vote and ordered option 2. Will update once it arrives.

Is it neon or LED though?

In the picture it looks good but they do tell you on the website what it is and upfront about it.

“What's The Difference Between Glass Neon & LED Neon?

Glass, gas or traditional neon uses super high voltages to charge gas inside a glass tube to produce the light. LED's are 12v and used everywhere from phones, computers, watches and pretty much everything you can think of.

Our opinion here at Neon87 is that nothing can match the Glass Neon look, and if that is what you want, we are happy to refer you to trusted craftsmen who are the best in the country. However, for many clients LED Neon is better choice due to durability, style, and price.

What Is An LED Neon Made Of?

Our LED Neon is made using super high quality LED strips with 120 diodes per meter. It is then encased in silicone during an extrusion process. This turns the light from dots, into a long line.”

Yup, knew exactly what I was buying they didn't try to say it was something it wasn't.

Had great comms throughout the design and delivery process too.

If you can't justify the cost of genuine Neon you can't go far wrong by asking them for a quote for your own design.

Scott.

I think £230 including shipping which included a Dimmer Switch.

You can get ones on eBay cheaper.

The finish isn't the same though and I think it isn't on a Acrylic frame.

I would imagine if you got a few people to order the same design at once you could barter the price down.

I went with Neon87 as they shipped pretty quick and they state its made in the UK, which sounds about right as I had it within 10 working days.
