Watching the great British podcast it got me thinking about judge dread and in relative terms the money and time that will be spent to restore one to minty fresh just wouldn't make sense to a sane person economically.

Being insane I will start

I acquired king bozo LOTR for £3600 a fair price, it came via a trade, however it was a bit of a rot box, mechanically great, played well, but covered in salt damage, damaged cab etc etc. not knowing my personal requirements at the time, ie I like machines in very good nick, I went loony tune on it, changing all the plastics, no's stickers basically I cleared out Marco and pinball life of every new old stock part in there stores, changed all the metal the screws just stupid stuff and ending up spending a fortune, thousands which was frankly absolutely stupid, a mistake I will never make again, I could have put aside the cash for a year and bought a gold plated one🤣

I think this must make me the thanos of bozos any one want to also embarrass themselves and try and take the infinity gauntlet of stupidity off me.

The only saving grace the machine ended up in a great home and I can go and cry over it from time to time.
Supervised of course

less than I thought on that game, at least you got a one of a kind out of it , altough the labour and drawing work would be mad costs.

I think I might still have the glove, as my cabinet was a still a bag of *****

Its is the gauntet of stupidity, altough buying a judge dread to minty up might have to take it off me :)

I dint include the import duties and shipping, its too depressing, damn pay pal interest free, as the bits whrre bought it drips and drabs and covid lockdown was about.

As I said mad money, never ever ever ever again

Yeah you have to bare in mind getting art commissions done saved me a good £1k I'd say.

All the replacement metals, screws, nuts and bulbs etc you can go ahead and add about 200.

I only use BOM's for client builds it's too depressing to watch your own money burn 🤣

Covid and the stupid bubble was the only thing that saved me loosing my shirt, pants, car house, dog cat monkey on it, in toddays market 🤷‍♂️

Yeh at least and doing the custom call outs music your self takes a bit of skill.

a giant bonfire, i tell myself well at least you didnt buy 4 dominos this month "lol"

my latest machine is as new condition, zero spend on it, except for the avengers tower, dr strange house, wiz mods aprons..... whoops goes back to being an ostrich.

because that machine is a one of a kind, i actually think it might be valuable to the right person, where as a LOTR not so much, alotugh it went 3 machines ago, im not sure you deserve the gauntlet.

Lets see if any one else will fess up and earn it .....

perhaps £5K on a leathal weapon 3 build, any one any one, ok ok ok

I don't have records as it is from a long time ago, but I got scammed buying a Rocky and Bullwinkle by the well known arcade scammers in Castleford, who change their business names on a regular basis and are currently using the trademarked named of an old pinball manufacturer

So I bought the machine complete, but it arrived with the playfield stripped to nothing, the right side rail missing and the coin door missing. I can't exactly remember the board situation, but the psu and flipper boards were definitely missing as I had to get Rottendog replacements of those.

This started nearly 20 years ago, so reproduction parts were not readily available for any pinball machines really, certainly not in the UK

I had to buy everything from posts, mechs, ramps, wireforms, plastics.

Some bits I remember :-

Got a plastic set from Chile pinball - the best repro plastics company there ever was - which got shut down by Wayno lawsuits

Topper and also backbox "hat mechanism" plastics from Chile pinball

Imported siderails from the US

Rottendog new boards for whatever boards were missing

Built the "save nell" mechanism from individual parts - took literally years to source everything and spend £500 probably 😭

Got the targets from the 2005 UK pinball show (who remembers when there used to be multiple parts stalls back at the old shows?) - think I also got a NOS DMD display there for a low price of £70

Bought a scrap LW3 in the US and got the seller to just post me all the mechanisms (pop bumpers, slingshots, flipper mechs etc)

Bought the coloured wireforms from a scrap machine (cant remember where)

New ramps

Backglass from someone on this forum a few years back

So no idea what I spent in parts, maybe £2000-£2500 + the cost of the machine, so 20 years later the machine is almost worth what I spent on it 😭

Watching the great British podcast it got me thinking about judge dread and in relative terms the money and time that will be spent to restore one to minty fresh just wouldn't make sense to a sane person economically.

I wouldn’t beat yourself up so much, you got some back when you sold it and learnt loads on the repair journey and ultimately made a pin great again, well apart from the cab art🤣

Wouldn't call that a waste, I think that project came out amazing with the theme! Witcher next? :D

I dunno burning money on pinball is all a waste really 🤣

Don't you ever think just how much money you would have if it wasn't for pinball 😄

I wanted to do a Warhammer 40k game but Holly isn't enthused at the idea.

If she's going to draw it, it's got to speak to her if you know what I mean.

I was really hoping FAST pinball would release their kit to the wider public by now. Would be a lot easier to do what I want code wise.

So no idea what I spent in parts, maybe £2000-£2500 + the cost of the machine, so 20 years later the machine is almost worth what I spent on it 😭
Wow I think this is definitely a gauntlet contender.

So basically in today's money £5k for a rocky and Bullwinkle

Certainly a labour of love

One day I will restore this ....
So far I have replated the underplayfield assemblies

All but one piece (the stainless arch) I will have to find a reproduction
Still, cheaper than what a second had one or a Haggis

I wouldn’t beat yourself up so much, you got some back when you sold it and learnt loads on the repair journey and ultimately made a pin great again, well apart from the cab art🤣
True, I actually didn't loose that much two Michelin star dinners I suppose or 8 nights out drinking in London 🤭🤮 It's also with a great new owner so is being appreciated

Yeh it's amazing how much you waste on giant toys. If you said I'm I'm going to spend £4k on completing candy crush you would be laughed out the building 🤣
