After reminiscing about Chile Pinball with Daz a few days ago, I was wondering...
Who else remembers Chile pinball?
What happened to the people that ran it? Did the carry on "on the quiet"? or did they just get sick of the legal threats and give up ?
I wonder if there is a store room full of their part somewhere in Chile, or if they just got binned?
For those that do not know, Chile pinball were one of the best pinball parts suppliers I have ever come across. The reason that I call them one of the best is because they were selling reproduction parts that no-one else has EVER made available (and probably never will) including prototype toppers, and complete plastics sets for pretty much every single Data East game. Prices were really cheap and so was the postage too! All my orders arrived with no problems and the plastics I did buy are still good today.
From what we understand happened, the plastics they were making were unlicensed and as such we believe they were shut down by "the almighty Wayno" While you can all argue about how making unlicensed plastics funds terrorism etc etc, its more the fact that they were making plastics for games that no-one else has ever (or probably ever will) make plastics for. So for a short period of time all these never before seen parts were suddenly available to buy.
While I understand that a rights holder has the right to protect their brand/patents/products etc. The big problem I had was that "the almighty Wayno" would sue people for making parts that he did not sell, nor had any intention of ever selling. If these parts were available from an official source then fair enough, but his actions have effectively made a bunch of rare spare parts now (and probably forever) completely non-existent.
If I knew they were going to be so short lived I would have bought so much more from them while I had the chance.
