Demolition man and stargate? What does everyone think of them? Are they rubbish, irritating or repetitive? (sounds like a description of me :0/ ). What sort of money would you pay ect.

I've purposely not added the games to the thread title so I can add more in future rather than start a new thread each time.

As with all games, you really need to try and play them to see if they are your cup of tea - even if only on VPinmame , it at least gives you a feel for the table, sounds etc. Someone somewhere will always love a particular table.

My take on these ... don't really care for either tho I would take SG over DM. SG does get rated as one of better DMD Gotts and certainly has its fans.
Owned DM for 2 weeks - hated it.

or check them out on youtube and ipdb

But its personal choice at the end of the day.

Loads of people rave about MM but I dont get the hype, yeah its decent but nothing amazing to me.

Loads of people diss Data East games but I think they made some crackers.

You also have to think differently if its your only machine. For instance BOP is a great game in a collection but not so good if its your only machine (repetitive)

Everyone has a different take on all games, Like Ivan has allready said play as many different titles as you can to find out what floats your boat.
I personally like Demo Man thinks its got loads happening for the money.
Stargate to is a good game but it has to be in perfect working order to be even playable.

What's vpinmame?

Cheers guys, out of the 2 stargate seems to have the most going on though I can imagine "shoot the pyramid " getting annoying

Also don't fall into the trap of thinking there is a 'perfect' game out there. There isn't. Fun can be had with ALL machines, but invariably if you only have one machine it will lose its novelty, you'll master it to an extent and maybe even get bored with it. And this applies to even the highest rated games. But then you can always sell it and get a different one :D Or like a lot of us on here you end up getting more and more and more and more and more ..................swapping them, trading them, borrowing them .....whatever it takes to feed the addiction :smokin:

Vpinmame is a pinball machine emulator - google it

You can disable the tutorial speech at the start of the game so no need for annoying. :biggrin1:
SG is deffinately the better of the two and is a very fast, deep game, I know I use to own two (!) for a long time.:bounce:

Well when I say I'm only after one game I think I will be able to fit in 2........

Cool I'll check that out when I'm on my pc

I think Demo Man is an ideal starter game for you. Its straightforward, looks cool, makes a lot of noise, is fast and fun.
But be aware it's a widebody and a heavy machine. Think about this logistically concerning your shared home living arrangements.

Stargate is also fine.

Grizz nailed something a lot of people forget, very few machines are total crap, entertainment and fun can be had out of 99% of machines *especially* when you've just gotten into the hobby.

Dont fall into this infuriating trap of "I haven't heard of this/seen it online/played it on Pinball Arcade, so it must be rubbish"
That's one of pinballs biggest issues this generation.

I does look quite good

For my cash, DM's far better than Stargate. Had mine for 3 years or so and still love it. Far better than many other rated machines. Hate the theme but really enjoy the game - loads of ramps and excellent flow, what's not to love?

Stargate just didn't do it for me. Loved the theme but couldn't get used to the way the flippers felt. Flying spaceship wasn't as cool as I'd hoped as well... Had it for about 6 months before selling it on.

Really though it does come down to what floats your boat. Some people really rate Road Show and Fish Tales which just goes to show there's no accounting for taste:puke:

End of the day, buy a machine and if you don't like it then sell it on after a few months. Even the worst machine will have some hidden depths.

I dont really like either, but thats probaly just because i havent given either any real play time to get to know them. Out of the two, DM would be the one for me, but due to the reason of it being a williams machine and me being able to fix it when it goes wrong. I literally know nothing about fixing gottliebs or where to find the parts which im sure are much harder to come by.

Rus makes a very good point, if you do go for the SG then make sure it's in decent working condition as parts are a lot harder to come by (especially in the UK) than for DM.

I've not played enough SG to have a a valid opinion on it but for the fews games I've played it seemed ok (a lot better than other modern Gottliebs). I'm not a fan of DM, don't know why.....just don't like it :)

I've owned DM for a couple of weeks now, unfortunately I've not been able to spend much time with it yet, but the time I did spend was great fun. I'm don't think the play rules are that deep but it's got a great smooth flow, with excellent sound bites and excellent music. Personally I like the theme, but I'm a sucker for cheesy action films. I say go for it, are you looking at the one on eBay at the moment? If so, that may go for over the odds as it's been blinged up with LEDs and the eBay masses are suckers for LEDs, myself included. 👅

Not played SG but peeps say its pretty good. Look for vids on youtube.

Demo Man is ok at best IMO. Bought a collector quality 1 from a chap called Ian in Blackpool.Sounds were excellent, nice and basey, game play felt smooth, but the playfiels just felt boring with not much going on. Wouldn't buy another unless it was cheap but that wont happen :biggrin1:

I like DM, never played SG(well don't think so) as mentioned nice starter pin imo, again each table is different and always check out as much about it as possible.
For me (newb still) my starter pin list is LW3, DM, F-14 Tomcat and Getaway as I only have room for 1 pin so I have a lovely Getaway pin and still love playing it everyday. To stop getting bored I set myself challenges and it isn't on freeplay so I have to try to keep credits going as long as possible and win free games, I also try to avoid features that give more points to make games harder to get a replay.

Woah, you avoid features that give more points in order to make replays more difficult? What so you avoid jackpots?

You are certainly making it hard for yourself!

Whatever game you decide to get, don't pay over the odds for it. If you can get a deal it won't matter if you love it or not. Play it for a bit, learn what features on a machine you like and those that you don't.
When you've had enough or got bored, move it on and get something else. You will eventually find a machine that ticks all the boxes and becomes a keeper.
You'd be surprised at the amount of machines out there that have never been cleaned/had rubber changed/playfield polished etc. Buy something tired and spend time cleaning it up. That way you learn the basic mechanics of pinball, and should add a couple of hundred quid to the value when it comes time to sell on.
Most important thing is have fun and learn the game.

I'll either go for multiball jackpots or rpm's to get to redline mania. Each one gives there own bonus. If I'm getting low on credits I just have a free for all :-)
