Virtual pinball - the next generation!

I've got that freezy terminator 2 table on Pc (I don't own a vpin but have software to mess around with) and it is amazing. Can't really make the most of it on a pc set up though.
The issue I find is you can't really look at the tables from different angles like you do in real life.
They'll come to life in VR though😳 must try it again.

Vpx in vr is outstanding, combined with a pin sim controller, using force feedback, and nudge control. It’s as close to the real thing as you can get.
I’ve currently got a pin sim vr on order, cait wait for it to arrive

I suppose its the Kinnect that's allows the screen to appear 3D, as it'll sence where you are. Without it, it would simply be 2d ( as a normal TV?)?
Yes, its using the kinect to detect your head position and moving camera viewing position in line with you moving your head to replicte looking around the playfield, the picture itself is still 2D.

Ok that looks pretty awesome...
So for a tech dumby can you explain this?

I have a quest 2 , is there some kinda box with flippers that you can use to give the effect of actually holding the table and using the flippers and plunger?
As if that's the case that sounds all kinds of exciting

I can see it in years to come, someone will think " how can I make this 2d game better.....I know, I'll invent a real one with real balls etc"

Basically it’s this, no doubt you can make your own, but as I’ve no knowledge of computers, or programming, I’ve gone down the purchase route

That's certainly an excellent alternative if you're short of space. And first time I've seen that concept. Just don't like wearing VR headsets 😒

I was intending to buy a real pin, had around 3k saved to buy one, and I’ve only got space for one.
But after seeing vr set up, changed my mind.
The one ive ordered comes pre installed with 250 tables, so that was the deal breaker. Ill never get bored !
And I’ve had oculus headsets for the last 4 years, so used to wearing them
With the price of real pins nowadays, this is an affordable option for people with limited funds

How do you drink your mid-ball beer with that headset on?

Joking aside.......it looks amazing. I'd love to try the headset for an extended time. I remember getting a 3D TV, I very quickly got fed-up wearing the 3d glasses every time I wanted to watch a movie.

The idea of access to lots of tables is great, and as you say.......very cost effective with the pin prices now

The oculus has a pass through option, basically double tap the side of the headset, and it activates the external cameras, meaning you can see without taking the headset off, albeit in black and white, it’s pretty cool

I've tried vpx on my quest and loved it.
Just needs more tables optimised for VR.

That and the controls, if only I could hook up a real pins buttons and temporarily use my real fish tales as the controller😁

I'm increasingly tempted by VR pinball...

I'm currently turning my old street fighter arcade stick into a virtual pin controller. Going to set the switches up on the side and hopefully successfully build in an arduino-like thing with accelerometers to build in nudging. Won't be quite the same as it will sit in my lap/on a table, but I'm hopeful it'll be a step closer to an actual pin.

Currently playing all this just with a couple of monitors, one in portrait, but not laid out anything like a real pin. Got FX3 and VPx all set up for whatever I fancy playing.

Space is my big blocker at the moment and I was already tempted by a quest 2 for non-pinball stuff...

Someone tell me I'm forgetting something before I run to argos and get a quest 😂

If you can find one, you could also buy an X-cade stick (both the Tank stick and 1 player stick have buttons at the side for pinball, with the tank stick having an extra button each side which I guess you could programme for nudge)
I still have my single x-arcade stick and I'm planning on somehow fitting my KLZ*** nudge board in to it👍🏻.
One downside imho with VR is I'm not sure I'd want to play for very long with the headset on;l, as personally I don't find it very comfortable. Good to have the option of both a vr and 2 monitor set up.

That's the one, KLZ board. I never play fighting games any more so thought was worth the go at drilling into the sides and rerouting the buttons. And I can resolder if needs be. Then I can find some space inside for the KLZ.
If I make a complete hash of that I'll take a look at your stick recommendations.

I can see why wearing the headset for long periods can put people off.
Like I said, I’ve owned an oculus device for the last 4 years, and can happily wear it for hours, playing games, watching movies etc. you get used to it, and upgrading the strap helps
I even fall asleep with it on 🤣🤣

Head tracking DOES NOT WORK.

If you wear glasses - you have no chance.

If a friend say tries to watch you playing they will probably get motion sickness.

If you look away for a few seconds and then look back the playfield goes manic.

Just does not work.

If you want that then play Pinball FX2/3 on VR.
