From Gary Flower:

Some years ago I was entrusted as the keeper of the UK Pinball Hall of Fame..
For a variety of reasons it has lain dormant for a number of years.
Work has started to bring it out of hibernation: Twitter and Facebook
accounts have been set up.
You are cordially invited to support the process in two ways.
Firstly, and most importantly, if you would like to nominate someone please
let me know along with details of their contribution that merits
consideration.
Your nomination should be sent (off list) to garyflower@gmail.com
<mailto:garyflower@gmail.com>
Secondly, a sponsor would be helpful. In the first year I estimate £300 to
pay for a plaque which will contain all inductees to date + 2 individual
awards. The sponsor will have their name prominently displayed on the
plaque; then ongoing, £100 per year to pay for individual awards.
I have invited a prominent member of the community to join me on the
selection committee and await their response.
In the meantime past inductees include
* John Trudeau
* Martin Ayub
* Andy Netherwood
* Steve Ritchie
* Gary Flower
* Nick Bennett
* Dennis Nordman
* Gary Stern
* Mark Squires
* Jack Guarnieri
* Jay Stafford
* Will Barber
* Mark Ritchie
* Steve Kordek
* Andrew Heighway

I know there are at least 2 worthy people recently I will be casting my vote for..!

Thanks for posting this Vin - You reminded me :D

Ok so i saw this earlier.

There were mutterings of a resurrection of this - it crossed my mind about supporting this.

The only issues I had around this was the fact that JT and AH were on this list - for differeing however obvious reasons.

then i thought - Whats the feelings around having a "Pinballinfo Pinball hall of fame". ???

Just an idea - if people think that there should just be one then thats fair enough - however £300 seems a little steep... I dont know.

Come on all you regulars - what do you think?? Or should there only be one in the UK?

I think a Pinballinfo Pinball Hall of Fame sounds like an incredible idea - as it is predominately a UK website and I personally think it should be UK people, I am sure those UK names that should be on there will whizz in straight off the bat. +1 for me for sure.

Sorry to hijack this one - but I also think it should be awarded at Daventry... but that is my 2p

Be great to see this resurrected.
Was a great honour to be involved all those years ago, can’t actually believe how long ago that was 🙈

Good on Gary for trying to resurrect it but we're missing that it was actually Nick Bennett who set it up along with Martin Ayub whilst Gary was the 3rd person on the committee. Funding for any plaques has previously come out of show funds as the awards we're at the show (and the organiser of the show was subsequently the 3rd committee member). Finally people are missing from the list:

Dave Rolfe (sadly missed)
Phil Palmer
George Gomez
Barry Oursler
Jim Schelberg
Dave Willcox
Matt Vince
Josh Sharpe
Joe Balcer

Just back from the trophy shop.

A shield for 30 names is GBP135 + GBP8 for each name engraved + cost of engraving title = >GBP300

Individual shields , for the recipient start at GBP25 a pop.

If someone wants to organise a better deal I am happy to pass this honour to them.
Please contact me off list as I'm not a regular visitor here.

Thanks for completing the list.

I think that all the awards came at the UK Pinball Show dinners, mostly Daventry.

I'll echo Will's comments, it was a great honour and it would be good to see it resurrected again.

As to the complaints about some of those who were inducted, the award was judged on their contribution to pinball at the time, there are plenty of OBE holders who now are disgraced. It's impossible for any committee to be able to see the future so for that reason I would suggest that there should be a removal path too, so a vote of bringing the hobby into disrepute gets you excluded.

I don’t really see any point to having a single shield. Where would it hang? Who would look at it?

Better IMO would be to have an online hall of fame, with faces and profiles. Explanation of what qualifies them for the HoF etc.

It would also be easier to remove people who it was felt was inappropriate to be included for whatever reason.

I would have thought that the 'UK Pinball Hall of Fame' should only include those people who have made a significant contribution to pinball in the UK specifically.
There are many names currently on there who have made no UK specific contribution and would suggest that if it were to move forward, and certain individuals were removed for 'bringing pinball into disrepute', it would be the perfect opportunity to remove those names - or indeed start all over again.
An online hall of fame would be an easy way to start over, no point in a group shield with every inductees name on which is returned each year, although I do think a plaque for the inductees would be a nice touch.

Agreed. It always had a whiff of my mates about it. I can think of 2 people who I think should be there

No need for a Hall of Fame at all really...

Its a hobby we're all in it for the love of it...

Don't need to a shield and a circle jerk to know someone goes above and beyond

Why not a write up somewhere on them then, as mentioned earlier in thread a web site,
Be cool to hear what they organised , did etc.

If it’s a hall of fame then surely the folks should be well known.

In my view this sort of stuff feels a bit elitist, but nobody dies from it so it’s no big deal. Ive been nominated/offered/won hundreds of “gongs” for my day jobs and pretty much 99.99% of them Ive turned down because the selection criteria or the judges where not good enough.

So my ask is to make sure the criteria for selection and judging is more than “he’s a lovely bloke”.

And yet...

I still consider myself a newbie in Pinball. Only really been on the scene since 2013 but the majority of people I "know" in the UK aren't even on that list. I know it hasn't been done for a while and times change.

Over the last six years I have seen a certain group of people supporting pinball year on year. Event after event. They're the ones that should be recognised.

As Neil has already pointed out, the hall seems very elitist and matesy.

Paul - Pinballinfo forum. This IS the UK community
The NLP team - Mark, Darren, Chris, Paul, Dave etc...
Scottish Pinball - Ailsa & Colin
Andy Foster
Streamers Neil, Tim, Phil & James
Chris B
Steve Brum
Kirk
Chief Coffee
Flipout team
Wayne Johns
All those that host league meets

There's many more and they're the ones keeping pinball alive in the UK. Sacrificing their time and money for a load of balls.

Cheers for mention @Big Phil but being in the Hall of Fame isn't something I'd ever like to be in...

Tilt became Tilt because I always had a love for Pinball and always tried to find them on my travels... But as everyone knows it became pretty possible 5-6 years ago

So when I decided I was going to open a bar, I instantly knew I wanted pinball to be a part of that venue... I was massively lucky that @philpalmer listened and agreed on my vision of a barcade in the UK... And he agreed in our initial conversation to supply 5 machines!

First machines were delivered 4 years ago yesterday... Addams Family, Shrek, Kiss, Spider-Man and Avengers...

Both Phil and myself never expected the reception we got for the pinballs and look where we are now with 20 machines constantly rotating to bring all the new machines to site

Never would have been possible without myself for being crazy enough to leave a secure job and gamble everything!
@philpalmer for continuously supplying machines
@chris b for workshopping machines
@Pick Holder for coming weekly to do repairs
@Aid Copper for cleaning the machines
@Kilgore for always being there to lug machines around
Martin the Van Man for logistics
And all my staff

Tilt is a collective of people... Not just me

And at the end of the day I do it because I love what I do... Pinball, Craft Beer and Coffee... And that is payment enough for me

Likewise thank you for the mention @Big Phil !

Big shout out to all who helped and offered me positive and invaluable advice in late 2014/early 2015 when to most people it just seemed like a crazy idea to mix a coffee shop with pinball machines, especially

@philpalmer
&
Martin Ayub
Andy Netherwood
Greg Mott
David Mainwaring
Peter Blakemore
John at Electrocoin
Ogilvy
Stern Pinball
Jersey Jack

And another big thank you to all the regulars and friends who continue to visit us and raise the GC scores on our machines 😀🙏🏼

Tim Thornton
Greg Mott
Matt Vince
Nick Hamill
Stan Simpson
Vin Jauhal
Chris Poyntz
Thomas Evrenos
Mike Parkins
David Tucker
Neil McRae
Punk Stig
Hal Cullity
Valerie Samera
Martin and Josh Illes
Ben Leigh
Paul Rubens
Ed Rojas
Wayne Johns (1.1 billion on JP😅)

Sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone, I’m sure I have!

Sam
