It seems funny to me that best rules and best layout went to Avengers but best game went to Guns n Roses. I guess people really like light shows!
 
Some of those votes are very ropey. You just wonder how many people have actually played those games.

the big news was BTTF looks like an absolute thing now and Eddy on it.

I thought the same, but best game should be a combination of all aspects including rules, layout, callouts, music, art, lights etc. bringing it all together in a coherent package.

Nice to see Spooky get best topper, it was free after all.
 
Really happy with results in general but the most deserving for me was a free Topper from Spooky that beat a $1k topper from stern!
GnR had to win Art, Toys and best overall game of the year easily as it is a game changer IMO.
 
Only reason to watch the show is for kaneda’s acceptance video - hilarious!

He never fails to please his fans and I for one was rooting for him.
I listen to a few podcasts but Franchi’s just does my tits in with all the voiceover nonesence and sound effect ********.
If he streamlined his show to half its length without the crap I would listen as he gets the best guests.
Love or hate Kaneda he stands up for the community and is unbias on all manufacturer’s giving them all grief when deserved. Also his rumours have been right most of the time and was a big factor on me pre ordering GnR CE before it went nuts.
 
yup agree, I don't listen to many podcasts anymore as I don't commute but always listen to Kaneda and Pinball profile.

JJP would have been FTW but let’s hope Stern does it justice.
I still think DP le is everything and more and easily my fave game ever from stern.
I was tempted by AIQ le but skimping on the Art and all the subway problems makes me think a pro is the way to go now.
However still loving TMNT pro and I know it’s kinda been bypassed due to the strange Stern release schedule I find it fun and that’s what matters as these balls deep rule sets sometime detract from what counts in a Pin for me anyhow.

i wonder how they're going to get 2 strips of lighter fluid on the playfield and then reliably ignite it each time you go back or forward in time.

I mean, you can't not have that in a Back to the Future game, can you?

you could do something like that with modern multicolour LED strips.

Yeah that's fair enough Col. I think I'm more of a deep rules type but I'm a pauper and only have space for one maybe two games so the need for complexity goes up quite a bit.
 
wondering if the lanch of Stern's next game might be delayed. They have just pushed back a load of back order manufacturing because of parts shortages.

The TWIPY hosting took me back to Fleetwood Mac + Sam Fox Brit Awards 1989 😅
 
The pairing of the two presenters like last year was false as anything. Shocked Imoto got asked back as she is not a presenter. She is better the other side of the camera.
With only a handful of games made it was hardly a shock who won. The whole thing dragged. Thank goodness I could move the timeline as it would of been 2 ½ hours of my life I would not get back.

did a BBC script writer so the gags I wonder ? Was cheesier than watching the new version of Porridge or birds of a feather.

A lot of my friends work at the local car plant Nissan and 100’s have been furloughed again due to part shortages with no sign of improvement in the near future.

Just to defend the decision was right not only did GnR get best light show by a country mile while avengers was 4th they Also took in to consideration the following:

best music & sound effects - GnR 1st, avengers 4th.

best theme - GnR 2nd, avengers 5th. I always say theme is king and R&M deserve this accolade this year.

best toys & gimmicks - GnR 1st, Avengers 3rd

best theme integration - GnR 1st, avengers 5th

best rules - Avengers 1st, GnR 2nd by the smallest of margins and not what people expected as deep complicated rules don’t make a fun game IMHO

best animations - GnR 1st, Avengers 4th

best callouts - GnR 2nd, Avengers 4th. Anther well deserved win for R&M and the reason I had to have one as for me Theme is king

best light show - GnR, Avengers 4th say no more there was no contest here although ST is cool in upside down UV but you had to pay for the luxury

best artwork - GnR, Avengers 3rd. JJP used 3 different artists for there 3 levels of pin which is an awesome move. Stern couldn’t be ****d to make one for there LE which for me is a big LOSE all round.

best gameplay and layout - Avengers 1st, GnR 2nd. Probably deserved but shame about the subway and ramp issues! Some point I will own a pro due to aforementioned reasons.

Game of the year - GnR by a landslide, 2nd Avengers and I have no idea how it beat R&M if you analyse the above.

GOTY Votes as follows:

GnR - 1423. with no real competition
Avengers - 534
R&M - 434. Close but no cigar

This post isn’t meant to alienate anyone and apologies if it does but fairs fair and GnR easily deserved the win
 
The reason it's funny to me Col is all the other stuff (art, call outs, theme etc) come a distant second in terms of importance compared with shots, layout and code. I'm not arguing that it's the wrong call generally but to me other things take priority. I think people are blindsided by bling when what really counts is shots and code. This is of course subjective.
