Hi all -

A bit of a long shot I guess, but has anybody got a TZ clock harness they would like to sale please?

My clock optos are not working so the hand just goes round and round and round :( the clock board is brand new.

Thanks

D

Have you tried checking the continuity of the pins on the existing harness? It should be an easy repair if theres a problem there.

I will check over the weekend... Ever had a pinball that drives you crazy because you can't find a fault :(

Anybody want to buy a nice condition TZ with a non working clock :)

Thank you guy's for your help.

Yea I need to do something with my Indy as it has some intermittent Opto fault somewhere thats making it kick 2 balls outs in standard play etc. Its a fairly common problem but could still be awkward to pin down. I haven't really spent that much me it yet though as I've been out in the workshop rebuilding my STTNG. Thats the trouble with having lots of pins, you always seem to be fixing something.

Well I fixed the knocker on bsd so it now shows in the menu and works in test but not in game. I'm sure there's something I need to select yes or no to in the adjustments as I had to on tz but can't for the life of me remember what

Trough optos. I had a hell of a time getting mine nailed down and stable. I had to change a couple of opto transmitters, re-flow the connector pins and change the LM339s. Solid as a rock now though.

Yea I've fixed a couple of optos in the subway that weren't working already. Everything looks fine in switch test now with no intermittent open/closes as far as I can tell even when having a good shake and poke around with the trough/idol/subway etc. Need to spend more time investigating, it could be more opto issues, cold joints on a board (either MPU or Opto driver) or LM339s etc. The symptoms seem to be common but the actual cause varies from machine to machine.

I'll try and get some time into it this weekend but really enjoying getting the STTNG together atm so we'll see lol! (EDIT: I guess I could try the trough Opto boards I have laying around from the STTNG at the moment and see what happens!)

LM339s are bar stewards. They can seem to check out OK in switch test but when the machine is being played they can flicker their logic signal. One of the best pieces of advice I have had regarding pinball repair was from a guy on rec.games.pinball many years ago. If you have a fault and an LM339 is involved, change it. They are dirt cheap when bought in bulk.
I once had a tricksy flipper and after changing everything else that it could be it turned out to be a LM339.

Thanks for the advice, I'm pretty sure I bought a few spares a while ago so won't be a big problem to change out. Did you change all of them out or just one?

I might just pop another MPU in and see if that helps first. Quick and easy way to narrow things down a bit.

I changed them all. I had the trough boards out. I had the chips. I had the sockets. Sensible thing to do really.

I had a bit of aggro when I tried the old style opto checks of torch to check the receivers, phone camera to check the transmitters.

It seems that modern LED torches will not trigger an opto receiver. It has to be a filament bulb.
And modern phone cameras cannot detect if opto transmitters are working. My iPhone 5 couldn't see the light from the transmitters but my daughter's iPhone 4 could.

Check it with your TV remote first. Point the remote at the phone (in camera mode obviously) and press a button on the remote. If you see the IR emitter in the remote flashing in the phone camera then you can test the pinball opto emitters in the same way.
