Having just picked up a nice handful of new plastic Ramps from Aus, I need to pick up a Tubular rivet press and required rivets to allow me to re-press the metal flaps and lamp holders.

Any recommendations? (preferably source in the uk).. Dont like the idea of the press fit ones from the US as some have reported they aren't as good...

Cheers

I had looked at all the solutions available with a press and found it was going to be very expensive and require modification.

Then Mooseman made me a rivet press solution and gave it to me as a wedding present. He is pretty awesome like that. :)
Once I am set up in my new house, you can come over and take a look if you can wait a few months?

Don't bother with the two-part rivets from the US. I spent all ******* night trying to get 2 in a TOTAN plastic, got through 14 rivets before I threw it against the wall.

Ha, Geoff's think alike.
The first link in the other Geoff's post is the principle in what Mooseman made up for me.
The second was what I started looking at buying in a few kits and then getting the arbor press but it just looked like a lot of expense.

Unfortunately you need different tools for different jobs. Yes i made a device out of a g clamp which works but you are limited to where you can get it into. I then got a 1/2 tonne press from machine mart. You need to drill it to accept the rivet tools. This also only allows access to certain areas. When it came to re rivitting switches onto aidie huftons jokerz there was no way either was going to be any use. We resorted to drilling a bolt out to make a holder that was then hit with a hammer. The bottom tool was held in a vice. This sounds very basic but worked really well. You just need someone to hold it all while you whack the hammer.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas...

I have a similar G-clamp device, however looking at it i think that the top part is pointed as oppose to concave. I guess the only way is to test it....

Any clues on uk source of suitable rivets??

Rivets are like rocking horse doo doo. I finally found a company and they wanted 90p a rivet!!!
Bought the variety kit from the states along with the short tools. Maybe manny sells them now hes selling tools?

i ended up having a mate with a lathe knock me up a pair of dies. one end slightly concave that will sit on the head. the other side with a small nipple on it to spread the rivet. whack it with a hammer. works perfectly. i think the g clamp and press methods are a bit ott. they arent big rivets and don't need much force to deform them correctly. One guy i heard of just a suitable sized ball bearing in the back of the rivet. tapped that with a hammer and it deformed the rivet perfectly.
