Transporting DMD pins in estate cars - VW Passat Estate - will it fit?

Hi all.
I’m looking to buy a sensible family estate car, that would also be suitable to pickup those pinball purchases 😎

I’m seriously considering a 2014 VW Passat Estate. They look to have huge boot space.

However, can anyone here categorically confirm that your average 90s DMD pin would fit in the back of this specific estate car?

Any members actually own one and have moved pins in theirs?

Cheers!

I tried in a 2008 Passat estate - and unfortunately it wouldn’t fit. With the top down it was too tall.

I’m sure if you remove the top you’d have a better chance.

Won't fit in most modern estates as they teardrop the rear for aero. Only car I could find is a Jeep Renegade. Otherwise you're looking at the huge compromise of a people carrier or things like a 306 SW. Even then I can't fit a stern in but WPC and jjp as long as you remove the backbox latch.

I can highly recommend a VW touran. That’s what I have. Rear seats pull out turning it into a van almost. It’s perfect for the family and moving pins.

Tried and failed in a Passat like that with a getaway high speed, well it does fit with head off!

I have a 2013 VW Passat estate and can confirm that a 90's Williams pin doesn't quite fit without loosening off the backbox bolts and sliding the backbox down the cab to lessen the height when laid flat.

I found this out the hard way :D . The pin I went to collect was a WH20, so close but sadly no chance without the backbox adjustment.

I'd read that a Passat estate could fit a pin in so didn't bother to measure beforehand. Maybe the older models had bigger boot openings?

My PT Cruiser swallows pins. As well as road tax and fuel.

Modern estates are too aerodynamic to fit pins in. Go for people carrier. Make sure you are ULEZ compliant (would look at Petrol) as most cities will have charges soon.

The Honda Jazz was the surprise car you could fit a pin in. I forgot to check the dimensions of the golf estate I replaced it with. Still, van hire is cheap.

Yeah the older VW Estates didn't have the tail gate lip which made it very easy to fit a pin in. Newer ones you have to slide the backbox down a s @mark9 says plus you have to deal with tail gate lip which can made it difficult to get out again...

If you like a challenge get a Ford Fiesta. It's always great fun taking backboxes off and still fighting the pin every step of the way to get it in the car, I wouldn't give that up for the world 😂

Bloody hell - do they actually go in even with the backbox off?
I've got a 14 plate fiesta and I never even considered trying to stuff a pin in that!

never tried one. but what about volvo estates, about as aerodynamic as a brick but very square tails....no?

We had a vw Passat for years to shift fruit machines. It was ideal as you could get the machine right inside & the boot closed. Only problem was you & your passengers knees were nearly up to your chin ! We moved a couple of pinballs in it but they only go in so far until half the back box jams against the roof & you have to tie the door down with a strap from the hinge to the door latch !
We now use chrysler grand voyagers, best car ever for moving machines ! If you ever buy one make sure it’s a stow & go as all the back seats fold individually into the floor turning it into a large van !

+1 for the Touran.
I've had one for a year and moved a few pins with it.
On later models the second and third rows of seats fold flat into the floor leaving loads of space for a pin.

Hey Keith @new forest pinball and Jack @NewForestPinballJr it's time to pimp your motor up to look as good...! :p

Here’s the New Forest Pinball, pinball shifter machine. Slides in no problems, even wide bodies.....😎(advisory. Absolutely no street credibility whatsoever!). Ohh its a Daihatsu Materia, if you were being the slightest bit curious.........
