I’ve been offered a long term loan of an rfm.
What’s the best way to transport, it will be a 10 mile trip in a van. Can the head/ back box stay in place, or is it best removed for transport?

Remove head, it is very very heavy and for the 30 mins or so to remove and replace, the time will be well wroth it. Also trying to lift the back with the head on to take legs on/off, not worth the risk especially when it's not your pin

Even Martin leaves them intact, moving them with the on legs and all. Tail lift and hydraulic trolley.

I always break them apart - just have to make sure you have a good set of imperial allen keys. Never seen Martin move any pinball on its legs!

I fit a pin2k easily in a ford transit connect LWB which is about the size of an estate car with all my spares and tools.
Have put them in estage cars before. Even my PT cruiser used to transport a P2K.

Can also move them on my own when split up.

Took head off mine, disconnected a few cables between the head and the body and imperial hex keys.

Was twice the size of a Seat Leon estate , got the head and playfield in my boot. Called on my dad to put the body (on its side) in his Jag Xf estate. It's shorter than a normal pin, but higher at the back of the body.
