It's a bit quiet on here at the moment so I thought start waffling...

Bought a TOM a couple of weeks back. This was never on my top 10 to-buy list but 1 came up 5 minutes from my house so I couldn't really help it.

Anyway, it was looking a bit sorry for itself. But with some elbow grease and what can only be described as sheer wizardry from Andy N, I've now got a really nice, fully working TOM.

I've really got into it. It has become my new favourite! I know a lot of people say it's too easy and I can understand where they are coming from but I would argue that it's tricky to get to the grand finale. I've not even been close yet on a 3 ball game.

The ball save feature must be one of the best around. And the trunk is awesome too. Some of the voice clips could start to be irritating after a while I reckon but all in all, I love it.

What does everyone else think of TOM?

Dean

(I know you hate it Grizz! Admittadly, it's no Popeye.)

Glad yr enjoying it.

*One* thing I did always like was the trapdoor raising up, make the shot in there, it slams shut, you get the graphic of the guy tumbling down the stairs to the basement. Love that.

LOL.

Why do you hate it so??

Its Xmas ....today I'm even extending my goodwill to Theatre of Tragic

After Jesus' birthday Sgt Grizz may bring out the heavy artillery and let rip

I have my TOM on a roughly 9 degree pitch and on 3 ball and it is no easier than any other pins I have. Video mode is a disappointment especially as so rarely get it awarded. It is super fast and the flow is amazing. Still have not decided if it will be awarded 'keeper status' but can't argue with it being at least a top 15 pin. I know many hate it but at least that keeps prices down

I've only had the video pinball once. Thought it was pretty pointless too. I mean, I'm already playing real pinball. Why stop me so that I can play virtual pinball? I'm not a huge fan of video modes though to be honest.

Come on Ive. Let rip. It's too quiet on here at the moment and nothing but bickering over at UKpinball. Let's have a debate that is actually about playing pinball.

On a related note I have it on good authority that TOM is one of Jebus' favouties. Happy birthday Jebus.

Agreed.

Oh its smooth and flowy all right.

Its a lovely looking machine of course. And the whole atmospherics/music are spot on.

Shame the software/rules don't match up - so so modes, poor wizard mode giving little incentive to get to it, over reliance on the trunk (oh god the trunk the trunk the trunk), no real strategies to employ playing it means for me the interest waned *FAST*. After a month I wanted it gone.

Guests/casual players love it but wasn't the game for me.

Haven't got to the wizard mode anyway but have heard it is lame. Why hasn't anyone done an update? So many possibilities. You could have the whole pin shutting down and then just have the hocus pocus magnets come to life and gradually it all goes mental!! Surely it would not be hard to do a new wizard mode? Don't know anything about software so I guess there must be a reason

I'll admit that the modes aren't exactly ground-breaking! But the whole experience is just fun. Also, like you said, guests love it. That is important to me as I have no local pin-head friends to play with. So anything that gets my non-pin friends playing is a bonus.

I can't comment on the wizard mode as I have not seen it. I do love the trap door, ball vanish and hocus pocus ball save though.

I played it a bit at the UKPP and then again at Amuseworld and quite enjoyed it.....not amazed and makes me want to try and buy one but was good fun. From the comments it seems thats the best way to play this one, at shows, arcades and other peoples houses so it doesn't get old to quick.

And your right, it has been quiet on here recently. I'm planning on shopping out my JD over chrimbo so might post a shop log for people to have a look at

I must admit TOM is not my favourite game by a long way. I actually find it a bit frustrating to play, with frequent drains. I never really feel I'm totally in control of the ball on TOM, although this may be because of my style of playing.

There are quite a few good examples available to play in the wild around the UK, including the one in Brighton just for GrizZ.

I think it would get old very quickly for me if I had one at home, but I'm happy to have a few games on TOM if I come across one at a show or in an arcade.

In my top 3, I just think it's fresh, I love BSD but when you go from that to the TOM it just feels like someone turned the light on.

Tom is a great title pretty to look at and good game play. Have to disagree about the ball save being one of the best, the magnets seem to miss quite a few especially anything fast. Now TOTAN got it spot on with the shooting stars, not much gets past those.

I can honestly say that mine have not missed a single ball. Mind you, they've only been working for a week. I have played it to death in that week though.

Give it a month or two and you will see why, the quotes a lame at best, far tooo easy. if you don't hit 2 billion every game your not trying hard enough, even with no extra balls, hit the trunk over and over and over again.. its a shame cos it flows lovely. WCS is Johns' best game by far.

had one , loved it, hated it, sold it........never missed it.. no strategy needed. to me, not a players game.. non- pinheads love it though. so in a big collection it would sit in the corner looking lovely and collect a lot of dust.....

way too harsh....

Had mine for over a year. Excellent flow, good game. Would rate it over MM anyday. Also i play it far more than my IJ. Might not be a keeper but I'm far from desperate to get shot of it.

Main issue with mine, is that my wife looked at it and pointed out that the poor woman on the backglass has no nipples. Never been able to look at it the same way since.....

WCS is Johns' best game by far.

Better than CV? As a former WCS owner I agree that it is an awesome pin but I've never had the chance to play CV and have a sneaky feeling I might love it...dunno why, just something about the look of that game. Maybe one day I can save up the small fortune thats probably needed to buy one these days
smile-1.png

Played all of popaduiks pins quite a bit, and WCS is certainly a good player, but theres no way in hell it beats CV on home roms. I like ToM as a casual player, but it certainly needs a better wizard mode. Imagine the possibilities... CV certainly became uber awesome with the new roms as it added much more depth to the game.

TOM put me off when I had to watch my dad play one game on it for about 35minutes at the show! Got my own back on him with the 5 ball MM though, one game took me about 45minutes!

Rus, am I right in thinking you've got a CV.....don't suppose you live anywhere near Nottingham?
wink-1.png

Yep. And nope. I'm at Teesside.

any pin with clowns, is EVIL I tells ya:D

I'm pretty sure there are no clowns in CV. Unless you count the ringmaster as a clown of course, but he's more of a lion tamer/siegfried and roy kinda guy than a clown.... Certainly is evil tho....

a circus themed pin must have clowns in there somewhere ,unless John is scared of them too. @ pete CV didn't do me, Fish tales had already done that;)
