Not quite a new machine but...

Bought TOM trunk from Phil.
Put it on and within 10 games was broken!!

I know some people said I would go through a few in its life time but 1 per Jr. Is gonna be costly :)

Phil is going to kindly replace the trunk.

On another note I have foam stuck on the trunk bracket as a absorber ... but it didn't do much good! Any other methods of keeping a trunk in good shape?

There is a gut on the German forums who makes an indestructible rubber trunk.

He was run off Pinside by threats of legal action from planetary pinball. I guess Planetary don't want people making trunks that never need replacing again

Dave,

I stuck foam rubber all round the inside of the bottom of the trunk rather than on the mech. It worked well and when bits did eventually break it kept them stuck together and in place as well.

Matt.

Virtually the same happened to me too. I didn't bother replacing it again.

Check the type of flipper coil you are using, if it's too strong your plastics are now at risk.
A length of play field glass beer seal tape applied to the outer lower edge of the trunk should do the trick.

That's what I have on the inside, it is thick but still happened.

I saw the old pin side thread on the rubber trunk and would get one if I could contact the guy

The tape fitted neatly on the outer lower edge will absorb the ball shock and reduce the direct hit on the brittle trunk casing.
Some adjustment may be necessary if the ball action is air balling off the targets and clattering very fast round the ramps.

I've used a product called dynamat. It's a sound absorption mat that people fit to cars to stop their big steroes vibrating their car. My trunk hasn't got a mark on it as a result. I think it was recommended on pinside a while back. Definitely worth doing.
Cheers
Rich

Used to be pretty expensive for the stuff. Definitely is the s##t for sound absorbing though
