Hi Calling on any electronic wizards out there ! Please could you tell me if a 10uf 50volt bead tantualum capacitor is the same as an axial 10uf 50volt tantalum capacitor i dont get why i can buy an axial one for 2 quid where as a bead type is pence in comparison
any help appreciated (i know they are differant shapes its if i can replace the axial with the bead)
cheers
Keith

Axial tantalums are the 'wet' type of capacitor and have a lower ESR than 'dry' type tantalums (such as beads.)

Whether you can use a bead in place of an axial, other than obviously making it it fit where you need it - comes down to whether you need a specific ESR rating.

The rule of thumb is that unless you're specifically rebuilding a power supply circuit, you don't need to worry about ESR. Swap for a bead and save the money.

Even that said, ESR ratings in tantalum caps and other capacitor types, have ESR ratings across the board so much better than electrolytic capacitors that we're almost just splitting hairs.
