Stranger things… who knew

Hi all,
Paid my 1st visIt to a pinball venue today (electric circus Nuneaton).
Wall to wall pinballs and I didn’t know where to start.
Anyway walked away with a top 4
1- afm,kinda thought I’d like this one as I’ve been watching gonzo’s recent video
But just kept going back to it.

But it my number 2 that surprised me.
Stranger things. I’ve heard of the series but have never seen it but was blown away by the pin I thought it was awesome and a very close 2nd to afm.
I’m a very limited player but I loved the ramps the shots the layout, the weird monster head behind the ramp and the general look and lighting on the playfield.


I suppose the moral of my story is don’t discount a pinball on theme alone because you may be pleasantly surprised like I was.

Great choices there, I’m not surprised you liked AFM along with ST. Did you notice the similarities in playfield layout?
They are both designed by the same designer Brian Eddy.

I was there for 2 hours and to be honest there was a lot to take in but it makes sense that my two favourites were both designed by Brian Eddy.
I’ll have to play some more by him 😊

I played on MM but was a bit underwhelmed.
Don’t know whether it was the hype I’ve read or that particular machine.
The lighting was very dim and I just couldn’t get to grips with it.
Some cool bits like the castle and the ogre heads, will have to give it another go next time.

My MM is players condition whereas AFM is highly pimped by previous owner and MB is an MBR . mmR is top of my wanted list but as you all know its a waiting game!

ST is my favourite spike 2 game. I wanted one so much l imported it!

Interesting to hear, the ST theme leaves me stone cold, but I love AFM, so maybe one day I’ll give it a go. Doubt I’d ever own it though. Just find themes like GZ infinitely more appealing.

As I said the ST theme does nothing for me but played both for the 1st time and left feeling those were the best two I’d played with AFM coming out on top and that’s possibly because I really like that theme.
 
I own both and can say that I love ST more than AFM. It has a different atmosphere, music and the UV kit on the Upside Down mode it’s amazing… ST it’s on the serious side and AFM it’s on the funny side. Great games both of them. If I would have to let one go, it would be AFM…

I keep dreaming that somehow an update will come out to add some season 3 and 4 and eventually 5 modes.

I know it's a question of licensing and there's no spare inserts available but was thinking maybe some wizard modes.

I know it's not going to happen but would love a Vectna battle.

Was about to write something very similar to this, if they can 2.0 the game to provide the option to update it to the current season then it's a totally different beast! It's legit entered the horror genre with season 4
 
I don’t think any machine suprised me as much as Stranger Things. Played the Pro not long after it came out (ie on early code) and wasn’t a fan. During lockdown I was after a new machine to relieve the boredom and got in touch with Phil to see what he had in stock, and he had a STh premium amongst a few other games. Watched a few videos and decided to roll the dice and go for it. So glad I did, with the UV kit and Cleland mix installed it quickly became one of my favourite games. Haven’t had it at home since we moved in Jan and can’t wait to get it back. Absolutely love it.

Part two of season four is out today but my wife won’t watch it until we get our blinds installed next week! Watched part one during hotel quarantine in HK and absolutely loved it, totally agree on it leaning much more into the horror genre this season. There are rumours of another Stranger Things house at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando this year and if that turns out to be true I’m not sure I’ll be able to resist a quick trip.

Loved the 80s but can say with certainty that Stranger Things has zero nostalgia for me.
Seems like a crude attempt by the Duffest brothers at trying to push the vibes from that decade.
Well, both were swimming around in a ball sack around 1984 so what would they know … lol
 
A season 4 inclusion might not be so unlikely. Stern have a wave of updates coming with new insider updates so on that basis maybe something comes along - it’s a long shot but who knows!

Problem is the inserts don’t match. Don’t know how they’d work around that one.
