Storm Damage

Hope everyone’s gamesrooms / out buildings are doing OK.

Next door tree looks like it won’t last much longer, hope it doesn’t come down on top of my cabin..

The O2 is in trouble

We can see the O2 from our back garden and, oddly, not only can I not see the damage (I think it’s at the river side), but - also - it’s relatively quiet here. There’s some trees moving at the front of the house, but the trees in the back garden are barely moving. We’ve had a garden chair fall over and that’s all!

Been pretty bad here but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. Lost a fence panel and a huge tree blew over a couple of doors away which took down the overhead BT cables...so now we don't have any internet until the middle of next week :(

Very windy around North West London here.

Large tree is down on our road - fortunately it fell roughly parallel to the road so no houses damaged, and luckily no cars parked there. We were sat out in the garden and heard it snap and come crashing down.

We have a 3m x 3m gazebo, which gets left up as we use it year round (I also installed a halogen heater and led lighting on it). Fortunately when putting it up, I anchored all 4 corners with uv resistant guy ropes and strong elastic (think bungee cords). Apart from creaking a bit, it has stood up to the wind extremely well - no damage at all, and it's still in the same place, rather than sailing away across the neighbours' gardens.

If anyone is thinking of getting a gazebo, and wants a strong and durable one, I can certainly recommend Gala Tent. We went for the Shade Pro 50 frame - strongest they do with 50/60mm hexagonal aluminium frame, and shock absorbent (sprung) canopy support. Officially they recommend taking it down after use, and not leaving it up overnight in case of strong winds, but where's the fun in that? 🙂

I invested in one of those 4g routers for that reason as you never know.

Hmmm...that reminds me, I do have one of those little routers that BT give you during a house move. My (autistic) 8yr old is currently crying his eyes out because he has nothing to watch on his tablet. It's going to be a long weekend!

Our neighbour lost their shed roof - the iron blowing around the street was rather scary! There's been a few trees down in town and nearby.

David almost got stuck in Ipswich as the trains were on an emergency restricted service and then cancelled. No buses or taxis running. Fortunately he managed to get a ride in a van with an engineer so he could get home!

One large roof tile has come off and had a fence panel down, guessing it’ll cost a bit getting the tile replaced, I think it’s from the very top corner from what I can tell.

I’m joining you on the single roof tile which is going to be a PITA to get replaced.

To be honest the wind in London was barely worse than most other times. We went out for a meal early afternoon. Everyone pretty much seemed to be getting on as normal but with less tube trains running.

Surprised how much damage was done to the o2 considering it’s just down the road from us. I would have thought being on the top of a hill would have been windier but I guess not.

Openreach are here already to reconnect the lines. Apparently they came and had a look at 8pm last night! They deserve a bloody medal

Powercut here 8am, was going to London so wasn’t bothered that it was going to be off until 6pm. 40 miles into the journey I asked my wife to check the M4 for weekend closures as been caught out before, few junctions near Slough closed so I said sod that and came home.

Went to start the little Honda geny and I must have run it dry last time I used it, I was going to power tv, sky and Wi-Fi. Can’t be bothered getting fuel so will sit here with the fire on keeping warm, had to mess about with my mobile data settings to get the hotspot working which was really annoying.

Good thing is that the beer is cold and pumps with co2 so might have to pour one soon and get the camping stove out for soup and bread!

Live on a hill and the house has big high pitched roofs, luckily no damage as the wind here was mental.

Drove up to see my mum today. Just after joining the M56 from the M6, a white van on the opposite carriageway, with planks strapped to its' roof lost all of them.
To say it was close to a major accident would be an understatement.
One plank landed behind me, one in front of me (and then splintered in to nothing) the others flew off behind him on the same carriageway, but also appeared to miss everyone.

Yes it was windy, but travelling 70mph on the motorway you would expect that people would check they secured their load.

I gave in and went for petrol, what a difference it makes. Don’t need to talk to the other half now😂
Oh that's your generator! Fancy! I was expecting to see a generator covered in oil / grease like you see powering snack bars and cafes out outdoor venues!

That sounds really scary! Glad you are OK.

Definitely prefer storms during the day! I don't think I got a minutes sleep listening to the roof last night. I hope that's the last one!?!

the post above reminds me of a holiday to California a few years ago. Freak winds in CA and this truck ahead of me had two sets of ladders blow off whilst I was driving through LA - the roads were fast and nobody stops so I had to drive over this ladder - fortunately no damage to the car but new pants required for sure.
