Do folk think it is wise to focus their collections on the same manufacturer ?

For example, I have found it very handy being able to swap parts and boards between my same era WPC Shadow/ TZ/ TAF, and separately between my same era Bally Vector and Paragon

In terms of my next game, I was thinking of sticking to old SS Ballys. If I were to get something like a Firepower or a Robocop that would open up a whole new platform for spares, familiarising myself with things .....

Problem is I like machines of all eras \ manufactures. I think the only systems I don't have are jersey jack spike and capcom.

As a side I imagine the 3 most common systems amongst collectors are wpc system 11 and bally 6800 and probably the least common capcom and Atari. Any fellow Atari pin owners please say hi lol

I think it unwise to stick to the same era or the same manufacturer, hence why people get stuck in their ways about Bally/Williams - soon as they play something else, it doesn't feel the same and they turn their noses up at it.

Go buy a load of Gottlieb's because they play totally different to Bally's, Williams, and Data East's. But once you get used to them and respect the way they play, you see there's some pretty decent games out there.

Variety is the spice of life after all.

I think you're better off trying out all different makes of games than focussing on one type. My current line up has B/W WPC, Sega, Capcom, Gottlieb, Stern, Bally and Williams Sys11 and I like the different feel and idea's you get across the range. I think I'd get bored if all of my games were early 80's Ballys for example....and I bloody love early 80's Ballys :D I also quite like having to learn the differences between different manufacturers when it comes to shopping out games

Such was the dominance of wpc that a lot of new pinheads find anything with a different flipper than used by Williams and copied by data east a bit unnerving . 80s Bally's feel clunky and old ems with small flippers very tricky indeed

However give them an hour or so on a classic like fathom or haunted house they can be "educated" lol
