For us engineers or people who do not have insider or pre-insider games that have to use the Stern game code download. Why is the site so SLOW???
It is not just my connection. Happens at other locations.

Taken me nearly an hour to download Rush update.
Was quicker burning Eproms in the olden days.....

They don't do incremental files so the latest 007 for instance that was a few of code you had to download all the assets again. Also no mirror sites. And their hardware is probably crap

Genuinely surprised they dont use S3 as storage since it gives the speeds and i am guessing it#s not the entire world that these are of any use to!

Its not an issue at their end. (and in anycase S3 is ridiculously expensive. CDN way cheaper).

The reason its so slow is the Stern Spike 2 MPU architecture and the wifi dongle. Plug your game in with Ethernet and watch the difference it makes.

Read the post correctly Neil

doh sorry- how are you downloading it:

I just downloaded the code for 60th LE in 2 minutes.

Bond LE code: 6G in 6 minutes doesn't feel ridiculous ?

how are you downloading it because its swift for me - my laptop wifi being the bottleneck...

Code:
neil@Neils-Work-MacBook-M1-Pro ~ % curl -O https://f002.backblazeb2.com/file/gamecode/rush_le-1_02_0.spk.zip
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
 17 10.5G 17 1917M 0 0 16.2M 0 0:11:02 0:01:57 0:09:05 17.2M
Rush is a bit bigger but still ten minutes isn't bad.

@Neil McRae - 35 minutes to download the Rush code. With a CABLE plugged into a router. As you can see I have plenty of download capability.
I take memory sticks to customers houses or sites - as previously when I have used their computers I have never known one to download swiftly.
Not the only one who has mentioned this.

I've never had an issue. What name server are you using? do you default to the one from the router or use google?

so check the ethernet settings and make sure you use DHCP for DNS. otherwise if you use google or someone else it doesn't map to the closest server and it goes slow. Vpin etc I imagine isn't CDN'ed so you won't get that issue.

rush finished:

Code:
neil@Neils-Work-MacBook-M1-Pro ~ % curl -O https://f002.backblazeb2.com/file/gamecode/rush_le-1_02_0.spk.zip
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
100 10.5G 100 10.5G 0 0 16.4M 0 0:10:54 0:10:54 --:--:-- 18.7M

VPForums is run off a 486 under someone's desk via an ISP who run connections to their DSLAM over a wet piece of string. (If it's VPForums you're referring to ; ) )
VPUniverse uses a CDN and that's always pretty decent (assuming their DB hasn't taken the day off)

You're not wrong about Stern's site though - getting 1.4Mbps on a 900/900 circuit, connected to the same target as @Neil McRae

Which ISP are you using @Pick Holder

It is Vpuniverse I have issues with.

On virgin media as I can not get BT fibre. They installed the new poles and fibre cables etc and then took them down!

Interesting, VPU is fine but I can certainly replicate your issues with Stern's (or blackblaze) service.
But I'm a Gigaclear user, so not an ISP in common.

Stern support code page, I have 100mb leased line, always takes 30 mins ush

yeah your line is maxing out, on my 40Gb/sec connection the most I can get from the Stern CDN is 150Mb/sec

Neil.
