Stern’s next remake

I’ve got to say with this tour you really do see the sheer size of the new Stern HQ manufacturing base. It’s know wonder they can crank these games out!

next remake is ghostbusters, i was at stern factory in october and they had that simpsons poster up then along with many other posters of their other older games around the factory also.

What’s the considered opinion on the value of the originals when the remake comes out? Do the OGs get devalued?

It’s a tough one, but I can only see that they will devalue ,if only for the fact that’s there’s more pins in the pool as it were.
Of course some will still desire the OG more but it will eventually be the same the other way round.

I’d be very interested in a remade Ghostbusters on Spike 2 - especially with movie assets if done well. Definite dream theme stuff, especially if it gets the sort of careful treatment Metallica got.

Depends, if the new version is an improvement, in the case of Ghostbusters having a full LCD with movie clips, minor tweaks to physics, flipper gap adjusted either with a post to bounce the ball out, air balls, changing lanes from single rail to guides. Sound remixed to high resolution, then very much so. The game was fantastically done, for me it was always an obvious contender to be done. The hard work of fixing gap issues and air balls has been done with mods, that could be transferred to production.

It will effect the price yes but if you think that gb sells for more than what it was new then will slide back a bit bear in mind that a re make premium is close to double the price as it was originally

If they address the known geometry issues then I’d say it will adversely affect the OG price.
Having owned one, the only real issue where two, the launch and feed down from the slimmer inner loop would drain. This was fixed with a mod that had a middle post that hung below the flippers, the ball would then bounce up onto the flippers, similar to the shadow. Probably the most simple but clever mod I've come across.

The other was the ball bouncing out the lanes because they where wire formed on the playfield, installing a mod that created higher plastic lane guides solved this.

These could be replicated with out too much issue.

I've seen others fit longer flipper bats that also help solve. So making the feed to the flipper lanes slightly longer might help but I never did that or needed to.

With the ball post and lane guides friend scored 12 million, I could get 6, the machine was set to longer ball saves, mainly so my 7 old could play it. She still moans that I got rid of it.

I can see it being a killer game with movie clips and minor tweeks.

The original machine value will be significantly less with the improvements baked in. It's not like a medical madness remake which is the same game, no difference. Well the differences like color screen can be easily retro fitted. 🤘

I would guess a Ghostbusters pro would drop to the 4k mark with a premium around 5.5k.

Currently it's around 6k for a pro and 8+ for a premium. Always hard to predict prices, it's probably a year away from release.

Where is the source that they are definitely making Ghostbusters again?

I cannot see it myself. Let’s not forget the game designer is a convicted pedeophile, that will be a hard sell for Stern when selling the remake. Plus, the game is not universally liked (I hate it for example), unlike Metallica or Lord of the Rings.

Personally, I think if they get that theme again, they will make a new game.

I’m a bit surprised too as I’ve heard Gomez distance the company from wanting to be associated with that person or give him any props. Would they rework the game to a point where it’s a new Gomez version?

I remember listening to this a while ago and it sounded like Tron would be the first Spike 3 remake; whereas GB not totally out of the question with revisions made. LOTR too difficult due to multiple licensing hurdles…. Discusses this 55 minutes in…

I don’t think it’s universally liked mainly because of the design flaws which can be remastered. No one has forgotten about John Trudeau.
Still…. do you see all owners feeling that strongly they are out there burning their much loved GB pinball machines 🤷‍♂️
He designed GB, but let’s face it….there was a whole team behind it. Are Stern and those guys culpable?
Unless I’m very much mistaken, I think we all know it’s a great IP that Stern could redesign for the better. Have to see…..

When I said it is not universally liked, I was referring to the game, not the controversy around the designer. I think it’s a terrible game, with a poor layout and I am not alone. I know loads of others love and that is cool, but I am taking about Stern doing a remake, not just the game in general.

People loving and keeping their own games is very different to a Pinball Company re-releasing the old game with the same game designer.

My point was, that someone said at the start of this thread that ‘Ghostbusters was definitely the next remake’. What is the source of this, as I cannot see Stern doing it for the points above.

I’m really not sure, maybe just rumours again.
Be good to see something credible.
I keep hearing the same 3 being mentioned
- Tron
- GB
- Lotr (think D+D may put that to bed)

Seen this end of Dec 24
